Simon Manus is still obnoxious
If only they touched the real problems with him over giving him slightly less health.

Still does not stagger in the second phase with multiple string hits and charged heavys. Still jumps out of the players view to perform an unblockable attack. (it's also a mixup to a regular massively delayed swing because of course it is!) Still layers his attacks on top of each other in a sea of lightshow effects, delay swings, etc.

You can probably tell I just had him at literally 1 HP but he decided to just stand at long range and spam every magic attack he had without coming in to follow it up with the crucial final attack I needed to beat him. Overall I don't see myself farming up materials and throwables just to cheese that extra 1HP on a boss that is dog from a design standpoint. At this point, I have zero doubt if I smashed my head against this wall enough, it would be over, but there wouldn't be a sliver of satisfaction from it.

I enjoyed most of you Lies of P, but you've convinced me buy off-souls games is just a no-go until they drag themselves up from the awkward clunky state they seem to ALWAYS come in.

I genuinely hope the Elden Ring design philosophy takes a nice long nap that lasts roughly forever. Obtuse HP and struggle battles on top of delays and combat with a lack of flow state needs to get out of the souls genre yesterday. I shouldn't be able to literally contemplate life while a boss is swinging its weapon because it gives the game an awful stop, start. stop, start. I don't think I've seen a single weapons full combo be used in Lies of P because junk enemies die in two hits, and everything else acts like an unstaggerable WALL of HP and hyper-armour. Nothing can describe my disappointment of Elden Ring more than the fact that they released Sekiro before it. Perfecting the system only to revert back to a largely inferior gameplay model that rings of Dark Souls 2 energy.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk about Sekiro and Souls-Jank!

I am so grateful that I absolutely adored the first phase of that fight, because otherwise I would not have had the patience for Phase 2's BS (took me like 30+ attempts to get that guy down).

The upside is, Simon "The Hand" Manus forced me to get good at perfect guarding, and that came in very handy for the absolute clown fiesta that is the nameless puppet :D

Honestly, Manus was surprisingly easy coming from Laxasia and few other rough bosses in mid-game. Manus' first phase is ease enough as long as you can get the timing of his Fury attack that jumps out of your view right. Phase 2 is not much different in terms of his moves, it just adds few new moves and area denial spells.
His delayed attacks and large sweeps need some learning to get the timing right and correctly estimate his reach. Once you get those down, you can start trying to be more aggressive.
One thing that can screw you over is if you are incorrectly positioned in center of the arena when the hand of god AOE activates, which can result in you having no room to run and hide from the AOE blast.

Now that he has less health and deals less damage, even phase 2 should be more easy to manage and not turn into timer before you run out of cells.

So apparently, despite the patch dropping, my game did not patch itself, and I'm currently installing it as I type this. Points to the crazy part of my brain that was convinced I just got a different patch than the rest of the playerbase! I can't wait to go in and slap this thing down because it's staggerable, doesn't have a frigate worth of HP, and doesn't hit for my entire soul worth of damage.

I first tried him after the patch, imagine my shock.

I kinda hate that they nerfed things tbh. the game felt fine people are just unwilling to learn to use the block instead of rolling

He's really easy when you learn that if you just run away from him, he'll cast one of his ranged skills, then do that sliding circle spin which results in either an opening for a hit, or, his fury attack in the air. Once you start forcing this out and learn that parry timing, which is a bit odd, you'll get a stagger at around 50% HP every time. Just running away constantly makes his AI go dumb mode.

that's the issue, they dont want to learn. They look up on youtube how to cheese bosses, follow strategies that other people came up with.

Edit: I just hope they will realize one day how much fun is it to come up with your own tactic. Figuring out out the fight is part of the fun

For the second phase, sadly, sometimes, even the perfect guard is not useful ...
Oh to initiate the stagger it's great ...
but he push you too far away ...
So you need to know when you can avoid him.
