About choosing which stats to level.
Right now I'm 20 for Vitality, 20 Vigor, 20 Capacity, 5 Motility, 30 Technique, and 6 Advance. As you can see, I've been focusing on technique. Right now I'm using the wrench with the booster blade handle. I have applied one technique crank to it.

Here's my issue: I'm still kind of early in the game (just got through the cathedral,) so I don't know which weapon I'm ultimately going to use until the end, so I don't know which scaling I should actually stick with. I strongly suspect that I will use the scythe that can swing around, but I don't know what that scales with.

Additionally, I was looking up the soft caps and they're all pretty low; for example the soft cap for technique was about 30. Since the soft cap are so low, should I instead just do a split motility and technique build, or maybe even one that uses advance as well? I could alter/change my handles if need be, but I'm not sure if it's better to stick with technique or level something else for a bit.

Pumping up capacity was what i did, it was so i could stay under 60% weight.

I believe any damage impacting caps, certainly Motivity and Technique, is 36. Past 36 there is significant drop off and 1 point will start giving you only about 2 damage increase interspersed with 3 very other time. Same goes for Vitality where past 36, you only get 8 HP per point. Capacity does not have any soft-cap as you are getting 3 (sometimes 3.1) weight for every point spent.

First of all, slightly past midpoint of the game you will get ability to reset your build so do not worry too much about leveling.

Next, I would definitely push Vitality to 30 at least, potentially even 36. Same for your damage affecting stats, ie. Technique.

Vigor at 20 is good enough. If you intend to use fast weapons, which Technique builds often focus on you do not even need 20 in it.

Capacity is really up to your preference how tanky you want to be. I like to use best defensive parts, Aegis and 20+ mass weapon, which means I invested a lot into this stat. I'm currently at 42, which let me wear almost all best (and also heaviest) parts without need to use weight increasing amulet.

Scythe is initially a "Motivity : C - Technique : B" weapon, so once you get it, you can crank it to be D/A and it will be one of your best friends thanks to the reach.

Otherwise - I ended up not pumping my Vigor past 12 until near the end of the game, while going to like 26 in Capacity (and I use the amulet you get); all this does though is allow you quick rolls way later after you have all the "best armor".

The only other thing I would say - consider Advance. It isn't as helpful at the beginning, but some areas later become long and have plenty of health rich enemies. Don't need to do too much, but it helps also hop around the soft-locks as you can then apply an elemental grindstone to your weapon for a boost.
