I think the main reason the game is not catching a lot of steam is because generally speaking soulslike games are significantly lower in quality when compared to Fromsoftwares blueprint.
Mortal Shell, Thymesia, Remnant, etc have some good aspects to them, but as a complete product they fall very short.
So i reckon people just instinctively assume LoP is of a similar lower quality.
Alternatively, the majority of people who like Froms games, like the specific ones in which you can play out the power fantasy through farming, leveling, etc.
Something like Sekiro and LoP force you to get good, and rob you of that cheesy element.
I can't wait for you to say exactly which From titles this game surpasses.
I enjoy the game and it gets better the more time I spent with it. Almost done with NG+ and surprisingly (for me), I might play NG+2.
I just wish they made a better parry system and didn't copy some bad ideas from older Fromsoft game like long run before some bosses, awful weapon upgrade system and no PAUSE button FFS...
I'd be willing to compromise. Every boss gets a 15% health boost if you put me close to the door. Deal????
Dark souls 2, that for sure. And, for me, Sekiro.
But this is a freshman effort from a small studio, and the fact that they're already doing so many things right means I'm not overly concerned with the bits that could've used some more polish and better tuning; whatever they produce next, I'm on board.
It's hard to compare games made so far apart. I love DS2 but I will also readily admit that it has not aged very well. It's much harder to get back to that title compared to others.
Personally, there are some things Lies of P does better compared to Fromsoft, and many things Fromsoft does better than Lies of P. At this point, it feels like making a David and Goliath comparison. I'm just excited at what has been shown and the potential. With some extra money, a decent following, and time, I do believe Fromsoft will have a formidable competitor, which hopefully brings us great souls-like games from both companies!
