painful as it sounds if you built the character in to a no-win situation, roll a new character. still so early in the game that a little grind will get you right back where you were and moving in to the full game in no time. reason i recommend this? aside from this skill-check at the beginning of the game this is seriously one fantastic game beginning to end.
worth the annoyance imo :)
This isn't much of a consolation considering the gold coin tree is hidden behind one of LoP's two gank fights which gives people a lot of trouble. So yeah, rerolling may be an option here if you're struggling. Not everyone can beat the game at level 1 wielding a poop encrusted stick.
I'm currently having fun replaying the game with a new build. Very rewarding to note that I've gotten somewhat gud and can now beat bosses convincingly that obliterated me in my first playthrough.
I did love the game though and beat it 3 times on game pass, when the DLC comes out I will get the bundle on steam and play it alllll the way through 3 times again. It's the best souls like I have played... But then it's also my first and I've not played that many more since.
I remember hitting that first wall. I messed up the build not knowing the wall was there lol. But by the time I realized it was a skill-check-wall I was over 2 hours and non refundable so i watched some videos, read guides and inched my way through the fight. Glad everyone was right about the game opening up after that first boss because the game is soooo good :)
It was my over use of dodging, and not enough blocking. Also, I had assumed my lack of dodge roll was an issue of weight (which is why I put levels into carry), but it was another "hidden" mechanic that you can only roll when not locked on. And once I started parrying more (perfect ones were still an issue), I was able to start doing more damage etc
Id like to say it was all self taught, but I ended up posting on Reddit to see what people would suggest. Surprisingly the "git gud" comment only came out once, and was justified. Not a bad group compared to the norm (in my experience anyway)
Oh, and despite a dex build, I used the great sword
Congradulations, report back 90hrs from now when your still enjoying the whole damn game :)
the problem with the 'git gud' comment is that in the souls-like genre many (not all, i know) very good souls-like players don't use 'git gud' as a form of encouragement accompanied with advice, they use it as a insult.
my problem with 'git gud', along with the above, is that its blindly thrown at everyone having issues with a souls-like(other genres too) game without taking in to consideration the possiblity of age, hand eye coordination, disabilities and so on. its a blanket explaination some folks (not all, i know) throw at everyone who isnt as good as they are in any given game.
