Weapon Damage is Useless
Why is the weapon damage useless on bosses? I have a +7 dagger and it does 100 damage per hit
I'm getting more and more frustrated with this game by the minute - first the combat and now the damage scaling of weapons.
What were you thinking Devs??? - This is not how you make a game fun!

Weapons scale off your stats. Depending what scaling the weapon has, it will scale more on some stats, less on others, which is why investment into stat points matters when it comes to weapons.
Then, also some bosses will be weaker against some type of weapons. While you can go through the entire game with one weapon / type, you will see it doing less damage to some enemies and more to others.
Thats literally how soulslike games work. If you cannot grasp that concept the game is not for you. And judging by your post, you seem to be clueless as to how to properly invest stats and which weapons to pair with it.

you can simply imagine it like this:
((weapon damage x motion value)-defense) x damage reduction rate x (1-debuff)
the weapons with fast attack speed have much lower "motion value" for each attack motion

The combat is forcing me into using faster/smaller weapons because the larger/slower weapons are too slow and effective blocking is impossible. Not that the smaller weapons offer much better chances, considering the Perfect Parry window is non-existent and that the enemy attacks are instant, but I digress.
After giving it some though, the problem is not so much the weapon damage scaling, as it is the boss/enemy HP - some enemies have way more HP than is reasonable.

Whenever I face a boss, rather than use my weapon, I resort to throwing all manner of consumables at them while the Specter keeps aggro - I do this because the weapon damage, along with the impossibly difficult Perfect Block mechanic turn the boss fight into torture.

you don't need faster weapons in fact.
upgrade puppet string to rank 3 and use that "Attack link" ability with greatswords.
It opens a door for new world.

you can respec once you finish chapter 7 (champion victor boss)

Interesting proposition - I'll think about it

Heavier weapons are perfectly viable.

I'm using the puppet Reaper (the Scythe). It's pretty slow but damn it's good. The reach on the charge attack is a game changer.

this game is pretty linear when it comes to build variety. I wanted to do a full dex build but noticed it's far easier to kill the second boss with a lvl 0 greatsword because you do more stagger damage and get to do more fatal damage which barely happened on my +2 rapier.

then with fuoco the king's flame I struggled to bring him down to half hp with my +4 rapier and glaive.
I then changed to the electric baton or whatever it's called ( lvl 0 btw ) and killed fuoco first try.

if the current theme continues then I believe you are not supposed to play the game with a single weapon up until you start ng+
"im poking the enemy with a tiny knife help why is damage low" pick a better weapon genius.

You are just not adjusting your playstyle memorized from other Souls-like to what Lies of P demands from you. Heavy weapons are perfectly viable as long as you also play accordingly. Moreover, you can combine blades of heavy weapons (retaining their damage and reach values) with hilt with faster move set. This will create hard-hitting weapon that is no as clunky as a default weapon might be.

However, that some boss fights just feel like they have too much health, especially considering most late-game fights have multiple phases.

I exclusively use the starting Rapier dex weapon. There is build variety, some people are just more used to X playstyle. Seems like you are a Greatsword type of player. I have no issues staggering bosses with my poke weapon

EDIT: I play on PS5, so I do own the game :P

This game is just torture for me (I'm starting to question the completionist in me whether it is even worth it to keep playing). Whatever weapon I pick up, there is absolutely no way to effectively perfect parry or dodge the enemies. I consider myself an average player - I do not have the same skills you do but I was able to deal with the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring and Nioh without too many issues (I even have 100% achievements for DS2, ER and Nioh 2).
In this game, either the enemies attack too fast or the perfect parry window is too small. It's not fun.
