Possible softlock after exiting during boss battle

Last night I entered a boss room and got a phone call so I quickly exited the game through the game menu (not Alt-F4).

When I returned, I was outside the boss room and the boss door was moved a bit in front and to the right of me. I could enter the arena a little bit and see my specter fighting the boss but could not lock on to the boss or get its attention.

Despite it looking like I could walk right up to the boss, there was an invisible wall I couldn't cross. If I tried to teleport elsewhere, game hard crashed. I could interact with the boss wall but it would disappear for a second and reappear again, blocking my access.

I think it would have been a softlock since if I teleported anywhere, it crashed, and I couldn't get in there to fight. I don't know if I backtracked far enough, maybe it would despawn. The only way I could progress was throwing a cog which aggro'd the boss and he followed me outside of the boss arena. I managed to kill him so eventually it resolved, but I wonder if I didn't have a throwable to get his attention.
