How you deal with shields enemies in any souls games essentially.
Also, the game is more focused on blocking/parrying than dodging.
Step him once you got there.
When he tries to clobber you parry him and step him once or twice.
The red attack is delayed to bit longer so you need to adapt to that or just get away from him once he starts.
He will stagger from time to time where you can get in a charged R2.
Do not try to take advantage of the white bar except he is staggered.
Thank you.
He constantly does the shield charge, which has two phases. He has a high-tech motion tracker so dodging does little. If you get hit by the charge, it's a multi-hit stagger combo followed by another hard hit. Seconds later, he does it again.
The worst part is he will sometimes do two consecutive charges in a row. Overall, an incredibly tedious and very poorly thought-out encounter. Not to mention the lengthy track to get to him.
Overall, I find bosses in this game to be insane damage sponges. Heavy weapons or light weapons rarely seems to matter.
