What are the soft caps again?? Because...
I'm playing NG+ right now doing a Technique build run my current levels right now are:
Vitality: 24
Vigor: 29
Capacity: 26
Motivity: 33
Technique: 53
Advance: 7

I read online that the soft caps were 60 across the board but somehow I'm getting way better scaling with motivity than I am with Technique even though my weapons currently have, weapon 1: D motivity, A technique, - advance and weapon 2: D motivity, B technique, D advance.

Why is Motivity leveling giving me more scaling damage??

according to this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTAL5t5yzC4 ) the soft caps are around 40. If you go past that, your damage only goes up by 1 or 2

The video recommends going to 30-35 for the best results for your damage stats

Ah yes, 40 makes much more sense.
There aren't any real soft caps. The value of each level (outside of capacity) just reduces gradually as you keep leveling up. Like hp doesn't go from 10 hp per level down to 5 suddenly. It goes down 10 some levels 9 others, to 9 all the time, to 8 sometimes to 8 all the time, etc. My best guess based on percentage increase amulets is that you actually get fractional amounts and it just truncates it so a level might actually give your weapon 3.4 extra damage but just show 3. You get 3 levels at that amount and it'll end up at 10.2 showing 10 instead 9.

This means you really don't need to know about caps at all, you can just value each level as the benefit it gives on it's own. That said, the scaling does diminish faster at high levels in the stat.

Except capacity which is OP and just keeps giving roughly the same amount all the way up to 100.

Hp and capacity are the best dump stats by far.

This is just a description of what a soft cap is
A soft cap is the point where leveling gives greatly diminishing returns
So you basically said "there are no real soft caps but there are soft caps"

Lol, damn you beat me to it. Was literally just gonna say, does this dude know what soft caps are?
I mean if it just takes diminishing returns then the soft cap is 2 points in any stat except capacity. My point is that each level doesn't give a certain amount and then suddenly drop at a soft cap, it's a gradual decline the entire way from start to finish. The stats are a gentle exponential curve downward instead of a linear increase that suddenly drops at a certain point.

Yes you are right about how stats decline.
People generally say a certain point is the soft cap when the point investment isn't really worth it (I know what is "worth it" is subjective) based on the return.
This thread is really about the motivity and technique stats and they stop being worth it a around 40

Sounds more like you two don't know what soft caps are. He was completely right in what he said
