How to actually ""dodge""

  1. Just... don't spam the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dodge button, it can be very punishing because the recovery time is longer than your usual from soft games (or at leat it felt like that to me) it seems like the game wants you to dodge properly with nice timing and not just spaming it with the hopes of dodging that really deadly attack

  2. Even if you say that "the dodge is too short" like I said earlier just try to dodge with nice timing, the dodge has i-frames so if you dodge properly you can 100% dodge any (normal) attack

  3. Have you played Sekiro? because in this game you can parry attacks like in that other game and sometimes it is just easier to parry than to dodge in LoP. In short, try to parry some more often

Once you try dodging without spaming and also take advantage of the parry the game may be a little easier. I personally didn't have any issue with the combat and most of the time it felt like it was just my fault for dodging too early or too late.

tl;dr Skill Issue

Are you able to parry the Parade Master especially in the second phase? I'm having trouble dodging his attacks

You can't dodge fury attacks where the enemy glows red, it's the opposite of sekiro. Only way to counter it is with a perfect guard. The Parade Master fight is 100 times easier if you guard all the attacks instead of dodging

I think it´s easier to parry/block, preferrably parry, but sometimes used dodge I think... not sure

You know this for sure? I thought I was just missing the timing, if its actually undodgeable this would be good to know

The fact that you switch from roll to step just by locking on feels stupid...
Also: You can parry the parade master? I tried this on my first attempt and it just didn't work.

literally 0 iframe.. in dark souls, if you perfect dodge and moving forward.. you wont get hit.. this game.. you perfect dodge and moving forward you will get hit and got punish by knockout animations that took 10000000 years to recover

yes you can, also what's the problem with switching roll to step?
btw even if you block an attack it seems you can regain some of your lost health, correct me if I'm wrong tho

I agree that it takes a lot of time to recover but that's the game, punishing. also I did not have any issue with dodging forward or any direction

It just feels weird and i ask myself why it is a thing. Who said in a meeting "Let's have two dodge moves. How do we implement them? When you lock on you get a different one. THAT'S GREAT."

Yeah you can recover health by attacking after taking damage.

its a literally just copypaste from Bloodborne. BB have exactly the same system. dodge without a lock and quicksteps with lock

Plus, if you perfect parry a lot against bosses, you can break their weapon which will shorten their reach. Not sure if you can do it against the bobby mascot puppet. I tried, but nothing broke since he only had his arms.

Ooooh. Didn't know that. Seen (a lot) bloodborne footage bot never noticed this.
Haven't played it myself yet because lack of interest in a play station.

you should ask that to From Software cause they did that with bloodborne long time ago

Honestly I appreciate this thread because it's what pushed me to be more aggressive with the perfect blocking. It took me a while to get the hang of it, but I'm starting to really like it

This game punishes bad dodges harsher than Dark Souls and especially Bloodborne. You CAN use dodge to deal with most attacks (except for the Fury Attack, which is best dealt with just running away if you aren't using parry), but it's situational and you have to be very aware of where you are and where you will quickstep into, and you more or less have to dodge into the attacks, but can't use it to reposition at the same time (until you unlock upgrade at least).
