And it aint random.
Legitimately you just need to get good at the game.
The usual opener in phase 2 with the 2 swings is dodgeable very well and you end up behind him, able to punish... But carefully, he can react very fast so don't be greedy. IMO dodge has a slight delay, but not worse than Elden Ring.
Except one red attack, where you can't dodge to the side out of reach, because simply because it's a red attack and enemies hitboxes are like claws around you. It doesn't matter, if I looks like you could dodge out of reach like the other attacks, you just can't, because it's a red attack and red attacks can't be dodged. Red attacks must be parried.
IMO, it's a bit fishy, but hey...
Perfect blocking is difficult but it makes finishing the bosses quick, and if you master it, less painful.
Conclusion: dodging is possible but you aren't going to enjoy the demo.
Lower your FPS till you get motion sickness.
What I take more issue with, is how the dodge animations slow down towards the last frames, which feels like punishment for using it.
The dev already announced officially they will work on the dodge mechanics duo to the feedback.
That said, the normal block + counter seems to work really well in most encounters. Ended up beating the first boss like that. Tried dodging initially and learned his phase 1 moveset but was having issues with his phase 2 moveset.
What other genre do people play and say "Huh, this doesn't play exactly like <previous game>, should I learn it or should I complain about it?" "Sonic doesn't handle like Mario, this is clearly broken since they're both platformers, change it".
No, learn.
So far I am loving it but def learning the perfect blocks and parries is the big win button.
