Idk if they will also make it like a "pokemon league" PVE feature (they already have trainers that can spawn in the world that you can fight, so it seems possible). I haven't heard anything about it but it seems possible.
Take BG3 at the most extreme. Most of the features are things the average players can, but wont, use. However having the potential to use those features makes the game feel better and more "free"
You can thank a certain game franchise for brainwashing people into thinking Monster Taming games must have PvP.
I don't care for PvP myself, but there are plenty of people who enjoy it.
Like... breeding? Schematic quality? Work speed? Condensing? STAB?
You don't like PvP. That's okay. Passive-aggressively attacking it and trying to nonsense the devs into removing it is not. Some of us do like PvP, and are going to play the hell out of the game all over again once it's in. It adds a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of longevity to games like this for players like us, and is invariably a good thing to have.
Your next argument is going to be that the things I used for examples have uses; the easy off-shelf counter to that is that all of those uses contribute toward the primary goal of fun. PvP's fun for some of us, just like working for and getting good gear/pals, optimising stats and builds, and exploiting the rock-paper-scissors system of damage output is for others. PvP is a staple feature of the genre, albeit not a primary one for most people who play it. The competitive scene in all of pokemon's mainline games attests to that, and I guarantee you it's more than 1% of their playerbase.
OP, PvP is currently not technically a feature. The devs have essentially said they want it, but they're ♥♥♥♥ scared of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up and implementing it in a way that messes up what they already have. Which is fair; the arena's a softball implementation for people who want to dip their toes in, but don't want open world PvP. A container, so to speak, that keeps it seperate from the rest of the game experience. They want it optional, in a controlled space, so that's what we're getting. Open world will likely remain exactly what you're talking about - toggles and server option/mod workarounds that the community sets up themselves. Pocketpair likely won't make any meaningful forays into structuring open world PvP with the attitude they currently have, preferring not to be responsible for the angst that so many phobics cause themselves in games where it's a feature.
Btw, setting pvp in servers sucks ass. It needs it's own mode, or place, like an arena. If you set your server to pvp, simply flying by another players base will aggro all their workers. Hell, even your own guild will be hostile to you, resulting in all kinds of chaos lol. If you wanna just go do a dungeon together, your pals will fight eachother. It sucks, in my experience. So an arena is much better. That's probably why they're making it.
I don't think I'll see myself using it very often, or perhaps not at all, but I hope it is enjoyable for those who want PvP.
I hope that there are no achievements that will require you to play online PvP with strangers, because online PvP can become pretty toxic. So hopefully there are no achievements related to the arena, or at least can be completed in private servers with friends.
lol did you think it was something you had to do? you go to arena to fight friends its not like they can roll up on your base and kill everything
Repeatable PvE content either has to be maintained or the currency or items are locked to a maximum per week.
