Questions about co-op
So how exactly does it work if a friend joins my world?

Do we just share the ability to modify stuff in my/any base?
Do we share the 20-Pal limit?
Does he have to make his own base to do anything?
Is stuff like XP earned evenly by both of us or do we get it independently?

Basically, are we each playing our own games or do we actually share things? Like would he have access to my Pal storage, etc..

you make your own base unless he joins your guild (make him join you if you two wanna do this so you are leader because leader can kick people out and keep there stuff)

while in a guild you both share the palbox limit of max 3 box but if not in a guild you get 3 boxes each but you can help each other build though any pal in the base slot can be taken out but any guild member but this also means if he finds something useful he can put it into the base slot so it depends on if you two wanna work together and if you trust him enough.

he can make is own base or join your guild by pressing F on you

if you are both fighting something you both get XP but if he isn't around he wont get the XP. i don't think that being in a guild effects XP but i can't say fore sure

if he joins you he joins your world as a new player he will be level 1 with nothing unlocked and no pals. and if you join him the same thing, you only share if he joins your guild this limits you in some ways but helps in others as ive said above. and no even if he is in your guild he can't touch the pals in your box only the ones in the base work slots
Heyo, I have played a good bit in a coop session with a friend. So I can answer some questions and give some tips.
-You both start out clanless and since that is the case, you cannot mess with each others buildings, but you can clan up and once a pal box is thrown down, you both can build and modify the base(s) as you please. But if you are clanned up, you are both stuck with a shared max 3 base limit, as that is tied to the clan. If you are clanned up, you DO share the 20 pal limit to workers in the base, but you DO NOT share the 300(?) max pal storage limit, this is individual! Each player has their own pal storage, regardless of clan. And because of this, we found out that if we wanted to trade pals, we just simply tossed one into one of the 20 worker pal slots and have the other take it out, quick and easily.
-Caught/hatched pals do not add to the other player's pal deck.
-Fighting world bosses and clearing dungeons/towers gives exp to both players if clanned up and both present in the fight, regardless of who captures/kills the boss.
-Loot is given to whoever captures the pal, or if killed, whoever picks up the drops from the ground. Exception is the tower bosses, loot is given to all surviving participants.
-Also with tower bosses, if one player is killed and not revived in time, they will respawn as normal, but will not get any loot, exp, or boss kill progress if the other player completes the tower fight. (If you have it so you drop any items upon death, your death bag will be at the tower door)
-Map progress/clearing and fast travel towers are not shared.
-There are no personall/private item storages/settings so both players can pull resources from any chest in base to craft/build stuff (again, assuming you are clanned up and sharing a base.)
-I have found that sometimes cave dungeons may bug out for the joining player (not often). If they find that the cave door isn't accessible, and doesn't show a timer or anything, best fix we found was both players shut down the game and restart and rejoin. (This also fixes any other weird bugs/glitches that may crop up, for the most part)

Hope this helps! Have fun!

EDIT: Also want to add that within a clan, pal box upgrading and progress is shared!
Good questions, allow me to explain.

As you may already know there are multuplayer server from PocketPair where random people can connect and your own private servwer, let's talk about the latter since that's what you want:

In Palworld one player will be the host and the rest are going to be the guests, so the host must be online the whole time since the private server depends on you.
Now obviously you must know that you create your own world, change the settings (enabling multuplayer) and start the server, then you create your character and in the options you can check an invote code so you can bring your friends along when you give them the code.

So, basically there is a guild system, in your world options you can change how many guilds you want in your game, guilds are an excellent way to work together with your friends as you can see each other on the map and share the same bases. It may be a bit more confusing if you are not in the same guild. So I recommend being in the same one. To join a player's guild you must approach your friend and interact with them when the prompt "Join guild appear", or if they join you you'll be able to name your guild and check who is online.

Each guild can have up to three bases, that's based on your palbox level (At level 10 you can have a second base, and at lecel 15 you van have a third base).
Each base is determinated by a Palbox and the surrounding area (You'll notice a blue circle that indicates the limits of the palbox reach)

Friends are able to dismantle your buildings with the construction system, so keep that in mind when building together.
One thing to notice is that you can lock chests and doors with a 4 digit code, so only those who know the numbers can ipen those doors and chests.

The 20 pal limit working is limited per base (by default the world settings give you 15 slots, but you can have 20 per base) so by having 3 bases your guild can have up to 60 pals working.

Each guild member has their own party and their palbox storage. However, the guild members share the same slots for working pals sonce those belongs to the base and not to a particular player. For example, let's imagine we are both guildmates, I have a party of 5 pals, you have your party of 5 pals, I have my own palbox storage for those I capture later and you have your own. We cannot interact with each other's palbox storage. You may have a Jormuntide inside the palbox computer, but I can't see it nor take it. i cam't see your party member eithers. However, the pals deployed at the base (below the palbox UI) are visible to me, amd I can take them inside my palbox or I can deploy some pals from my palbox into the base so you can take them later into your palbox storage. That's because we are sharing the workers at the base.

Your friend can make his own set of based if he has his own guild, so technically both of you can have 6 bases, 3 for each of you, however you'll not be able to see each other on the map if you are not part of the same guild. I highly recommend being part of the same guild to track each other much easily instead of relying on coordinates.

Each players will level up independant of each other, however when you're at any base and your pals finsihed a small yask you'll get a small xp bonus, so both of you can passively get xp if you both are at the base.
Also, even if your friend catches a pal, you'll get an xp bonusas long as you helped by dealing a little bit of damage. And if it is your first time defeating an alpha pal boss you'll still get an ancient technology point even if your friend caught it or killed it.
About tower bosses, there are two interact prompts the first one is to start a raid party against the tower boss, the second one is to start the fight. When you interact for the first time with the entrance of a tower you'll see in upper right corner the players who are joining the fight. The second interaction prompt will request you to hold the interact button to start the fight.

You guys will share stuff in this world, but as I said before you may lock your chests amd doors with a 4 digit password if you want some privacy, each one player has their own xp and technology trees, so you can actually save technology points by making only one of you learn how to build something. Both of you can take stuff from crafting stations once they are finished, the first one to interact with it will grab it. Both of you can work on the same crafting station to accelerate progress. Each has their party and palbox storage, but share the pals at base if you're part of the same guild.

Some recommendations from me:
- After starting your world, and sending the invite code to your friend, go to the spawn area and wait for your friend to finish customizing their character. So you can go together.
- If possible, try to be on the same guild by interacting with each other, so you share resources at the base and track each other on the map so you don't get lost.
- When crafting key items (Feeding bags, Pal saddles or gloves, etc.) try crafting one at the time, and make each one of you pick it up from the working bench, because it seems there is a bug where you can't drop key items like you can with regular items.

I may be mistaken on a few parts, but I hope you have fun and have a great time together.

P.S. Lifmunk effigies and journals are individual to each one of you, but treasure chests along the islands will be open by the first player that interacts with them.
You share the ability to work together and friendly fire, also bases which include storage container inventory, palbox and viewing cage pals, as well as passive exp bonus.

Your private pal storage will remain private. Place pals in a base palbox to share them freely with your guild members.

Together you share the same limit of bases, so if you want more I'd recommend maxing your base upgrades independently (not guilding). Multiple bases do give a hit to performance atm, so it's better to stick to 2 or 3 anyway; why do you need so many? lol :cqlol:

XP and boss battles are shared in coop playr; only one of you can capture a boss Pal, for instance, but both of you will get credit for defeating it; you can go back to catch it for the other player, later. If a player is not present and other(s) defeat a boss, it will not count for the absent players (the boss marker will read un-killed for them on the map, still)

The Devs have made literally no disadvantage to coop play from my standpoint, only boons. It's coop done right.
