PC burning smell during palword
So I got a brand new pc, everything seems to check out, I even ran it through Cinebench benchmarks, running the cpu up to 100% and I had adjusted my voltage values to appropriate values, now everything is good.

I noticed at first a burning smell, thought it was my neighbour as my HWmonitor is reporting no issues with any components, temps are all good, Power usage is good. Nothing i can find is a problem.

Next time I smelled the burning smell, but wasn't on the game for long, third time I smelled it again, okay something is off I doubt my neighbour is cooking/barbecuing the 3 times I been playing palworld.

So now I am looking into investigating what is causing this. It seems to start very quick when playing palworld on full max settings.

Rtx 4090
DDR5 7200 mhz 32GB
1intel I14900k CPU

brand new pc, no other games have this symptom, I don't see my temps increase outside the values of other games either so it's very weird, I smell the burning but don't notice smoke, I tried getting close to my PC but I don't smell the burning any more strongly, maybe I am crazy but thought I would post as 3 coincidences are weird, and this did not happen on my last PC.

the only thing I can think of is maybe due to my BioS settings

undervolted my CPU by -70
XMP enabled
Power limit to 150W

perhaps I will increase that to 170W and test.

Have you tried running any programs designed to heavily-load the PC? Prime95 for an hour, Unigine on max for an hour; I'm not familiar enough with cinebench to know if it cares more about benchmarking than max-loading.

This just sounds like Palworld, being poorly-optimized, is really taxing your system. Real world loading is different from benchmarking.

Buy an air freshener so you don't pick up the burning smell, problem solved.

if it's a new PC could be the smell from the parts heating up under load, keep an eye on it if you see smoke then you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥!

I am sure if you played enough games you would find one that can replicate this issue for your PC.

You seem to know a lot about tweaking the settings on your computer. Like someone else said, I am inclined to think whoever setup your PC made some whoopsies, or you have yourself touched a whoopsie.

I just made a post about lag spikes in certain areas. Could be a hardwear or softwear issue in your pc or could be Palworld.

Troll.

Nobody who actually knows anything about electronics well enough to go after CPU voltage would be saying they dropped it by seventy volts, considering the literal physical impossibility of dropping seventy volts in a system that operates on 5 and 12 VDC.

Seventy volts... God, that would turn the CPU into a perpetual power device and give power back to the grid... If it didn't instantly incinerate all the copper leads on the mother board.

Try putting your ignis pets away. That should solve your problem.

I mean I thought I was being you know smart by asking the community, but my apologies I had thought I had a legitimate issue that maybe others encountered and I would have expected it to be encountered in other games, but I should likely bring this to a hardware forum my apologies everyone.

Did you peel off the protective film from your CPU?

CPU temp is fine, one thing I did notice palworld is the only game hitting power limit which I set to 150W, so maybe I will increase that. I know this does not indicate a problem hitting the limit, however so far it's a difference compared to other games, 170W is still fine for a limit.

I hope they did, it was pre built, Nothing shown in any monitoring tools shows a problem for temperature either, but the smell goes away after sometime with palworld stopped and still gaming other games, only thing I did was edit the bios values after extensive testing in Cinebench and finding out my CPU was using unlimited power by default.

I will try upping the power limit to 170 and test again.

Your problem is too vague and troubleshooting it via forum is too hard, no wonder everyone thinks you're a troll.
But if i were you, i would return that PC ASAP seeing as its brand new and it's probably still under warranty. Not worth it the headaches trying to troubleshoot a problem that may have been caused by the pre-built company.

A PC that wasn't assembled by a monkey would shut itself down LONG before anything has the opportunity to be in a state where it is literally burning.

That said, is there a specific reason why you went and messed with your BIOS settings?
