The only limiting factors will be the prepared materials/food/medicine, but for that I recommend a seperate base as well. Once in a blue moon you just haul your sorry ass between the bases to fill up missing supplies en masse as overloading doesn't prevent teleport. Obviously you also gotta get your bases to run good enough to supply all the necessary stuff.
Farm pals suffer more from increased workload than actual working pals as they don't seek out recreational facilities but still get a drain on sanity like all the other pals and sleeping and eating alone usually doesn't fix that. You should always keep them in a different base when you want to increase the workload unless you are fine with regularly dropping the workload every few days.
my god is the end game really THAT grindy? that you need two entire bases just to maximize smelting?
Not really, that's just how I'd do it if I had the need for a lot of high end balls regularly. Like if you want to catch even lvl 1 chickens with nothing less than a legendary ball or smth..
I am using the right ball for the right lvl range usually, but I can see people wanting to simplify by just using the best balls all the time.
I am actually totally fine by just using 3 lvl 2 and one lvl 3 firework pals at normal speed (which also do other work) and I am close to reaching lvl 50.
However if you consider Palworld grindy just due to the fact that someone uses more than one base/has bases themed for stuff you must either be allergic to grind because you just came from some super grindy game like Destiny or Warframe and thus have a warped sense of what is "grind", or you're in the wrong gaming sub and actually thought you were in some other game like Ark (don't know if that game is grindy, that's just the other game with bases I could think of).
Palworld is FAR from grindy considering everything is being handed to you by pals and the most work you do for the toys you play with is building and management as well as providing initial resources, which is fun in itself. You know, because it is a survival exploration and resource management game. Natural feedback loops giving you serotonin and stuff.
Oh and also if you only want to play with 1 base you can up your world settings so that 1 base can have a higher max amount of pals until you are satisfied with what they provide for you.
