Foods like salad, pizza, and minestrone not only provide useful work speed buffs, but provide far more satiety to keep pals fuller longer, meaning fewer trips to the food box.
Pals will eat every time their hunger hits 50%, if you're only giving them 1% food they will constantly be going to eat. Make salads, and pizza, it only takes a few in-game days to make 1000 and then you don't have to care for like a month. And they'll be productive for a lot longer each day. They'll only have to eat once per day or something instead of 50 times.
And then once in a while, have your Kindling Pal cook 150+ salads.
You can even set it for Pals to haul, and you can walk away and they'll handle their food while you're gone.
Lyleen plants/harvest and Jorm waters. If you have them in a place where they can't reach the plantations, they'll work in place, which is faster. I use Helzephyr to move the food to a freezer. Doing this will take a moment, but it pays for itself quickly over time. I recommend forcing them to do one role each so that they never get distracted by anything else too.
After you've collected the first few salads, they'll eat them and be much more productive from then on. Well worth swapping imo.
If you lack space, build a farm in another base, like a base you use specifically for ore, coal, or oil. That way, it doesn't take a bunch of space and you can plant more crops. You can plant crops on top of foundations too, so you can make a big zone in the air for crops. Just travel back to that base when you need to restock food.
I personally Alternate between a setup of 4 tomato, 3 onion, 2 carrots and potatoes when I'm doing Minestrone production for food, and 7 tomato and lettuce when I'm doing Salad production (for money), 2 wheat and berries will run at all time for a mix of both profit and cake production.
May The Best Chikipi Win!
No, Seriously, Food has a Nutrition Value when you look at it, the higher the nutrition, the more it will fill them up.
Say i feed my, lets say Petalia berries, her hunger isint gonna be restored much, due to low nutrional value, now if i feed her a mammoth steak, or whatever that pal is called, it will fill her up more. Some Pals also eat more than others, you can see how much they eat in their stats too.
i think they get hungier quicker also if you have them assigned to anything above "Normal" in the Monitoring Stand, but i havent tested that.
Eventually though, you do reach a breakpoint where it's not really worth investing in better food. Salad is pretty much that breakpoint, so it's what everyone uses.
I swapped up when I noticed my miners were pausing literally every 10-20 seconds to go eat. Berries just do not provide enough satiation to be worth it lategame. Salad is annoying to set up, but once you've got two lettuce/tomato farms down and tier 3-4 waterers/seeders/harvesters, the farm runs itself. All you need to do is remember to craft a thousand or so salads every few hours.
Pizza. Pizza is the best food
