"(Pal) couldn't reach (task)" bug??
I get these messages all the time, even if the task is in a spot that I've SEEN that Pal get to before. My Mossanda Lux does it all the time with the power generator, using the remote work mode even though they're like... 5 feet away from the generator, nothing blocking the way between the two.

Is this an AI pathing issue, or a skill issue?

Nah, when they implemented those messages to give us more info it seems they inadvertently created a bug that causes false positives where there is nothing wrong, but the AI thinks there is. That is unless ofcourse you have roofs the pals need to go under, seems those have to be like 3 or 4 walls high for the larger pals to fit.

It's good when they at least work remotely. I often had pals refuse to work at all because they can't reach their destination, although they freely pass by.
It helped me when I dismantle the roof... apparently there are still big problems with the positioning of the structures inside the buildings. Alas, you have to sacrifice beauty for functionality when planning a base... sad.
It might also help to make a double floor for the roof - I haven't tested.

Also every time I log back into the game I have to manually carry the penguin back to the fridge to get it to work inside the building otherwise he won't find the entrance... lol.

This also sometimes happens on uneven terrain.

Good to know that it's not a skill issue! Thank you for the responses.

Its best taken as 'The pathing has some instability; functional'

In cases like this you can observe pals falling off their workstations on the monitoring stand, but they will consistently work it once they arrive. This seems possible since the AI is constantly checking and rerouting, it can successfully reach its destination during automatic workmode.

Observe for props, limited foundation space, uneven terrain, etc..

Automatic workmode is what I always use, outside of my cake production where I set a pal on the mill and on the cookpot so those two would be running as consistently as possible.

The walking space itself is fine, but it seems that the "patching has instability" still applies: does "limited foundation space" mean the building foundations? I use roof squares a lot when the foundations can't be placed in that area, and on the upper few levels of the base.

Either way, it's still the instability you described given that I have seen pals get to those areas, they simply don't do it for the tasks. Thank you!

I started having same issue, rendered my base dead/inactive pretty much. Nobody does anything now, because path finding got screwed.

The bugs aren't new, sadly. The message spam is - it's more or less printing the debug text to the player's base event dialogue box - but what's happening to cause the spam is the same pathfinding bugs that's been happening since the game went live.

Not something to fault/lay blame for - it's good to know when a pal's stuck - but the frequency of message alerts could definitely use some tuning, and should have been a lot less frequent from the outset.

I took a break from the game, but after being back have to say the pathing issue is worse. I have Pals being "unable to reach" areas when they were literally JUST doing the job and nothing in the way. I have crops in the open not blocked by ANYTHING and they have issues. I use to keep my cooking pot and cooler box behind the Tavern to look nice and all and never had a single issue, but now I can't even have these things there or even against a wall. The pathfinding has 100% been bugged. Way worse.

Yeah, after a couple more patches, I'm now inclined to agree. It's happening more often than it was when I initially made my prior post. We've got a fair few of our workstations out in the open with direct paths to and from storage/food, and the pals often just... get stuck. Either teleport to work or don't work at all.

It's not bad to the point of being debilitating (I think that they work more when we're not at the base than when we are), but it's definitely gotten to be enough of a problem that it should be a priority issue to fix.
To be fair this thing seems to be random my base is not all that big but the essentials are in decently open areas and sometimes the pals can reach them just fine and sometimes they cant reach and just do it from distance not sure how much AI path fiding works or if it just totally dies instead but as i say it seems random.

I had struggles when everything was on the ground. I even have a screenshot of what happens every time I sleep in game, I wake up to just about every pal in the base unlocking from their station. I've since built up two bases so they're big two story building and a lot of those problems seem to have gone away.
The only thing I struggle with now is that the pals produce so much my transportation pals can't keep up. But I figure that'll get alleviated when I start breeding/fusing those pals. I've mostly been focusing on getting the pals producing more.

What terrain were you building on?
