What do you do in the game?
This is not a joke.
Just curious. Because I feel like my interest is waning, but I like the game and I'm trying to find new ways to stretch it out.

It was fun at the beggining, but then I found that I became too tied to the base and sort of stagnated.
I'm level 48, playing solo, playing on normal.
And I've found that all I do in the game lately is feed the pals, breed the pals, gather nearby resources, craft spheres and ammo, cook toons of food and manage resources at the base... maybe an occasional dungeon or boss that I haven't caught 12 of yet, while the eggs hatch.
Spheres and ammo cost a ton of resources, while my current best spheres I can craft (red ones) have about a 35-40% chance to catch a level 30+ bosses (but because of the randomness I often spend about 5-10 spheres on one), and I need cakes to breed (I had to build a whole second base as a confectionery factory for that), and I need food for the pals (for 2 bases), and resources for repairs... and it all turns into an endless grind in and around the base. For higher technologies I need quartz, which I still haven't found because I can't leave the base and go too far.

And yet I feel like I've only explored a small part of the map (maybe like just 15% as I spoiled it a bit for myself) and only met one tower boss at the beginning. But every time I go exploring, I quickly reach the weight limit, and I quickly run out of orbs and ammo and have to sit in the base and collect resources again (because i have to catch and butchering pals for bones on cement, and pals on food, and pals for fusions, and look for pals with passives for breeding, and pals for organs... and go to the dungeons for sulfur for ammo and ancient civilization parts for repairing rare gear atc.

So - and what do you do in the game and what is fun about it for you?

I'm constantly trying to do impossible things. Like make a character super op. Solo the raid bosses. I can breed monsters and waste a month getting the right stuff, I also want to do it solo. It's a dark souls thing.

The weight limit stops being an issue once you can build the production stations for wood, stone and ore (and later on, sulphur and coal) - (At least if you can resist the compulsion to mine everything you see) whatever you can find naturally will be nothing compared to what your resource base can produce.
Likewise, once your base produces enough raw materials you'll have less issues keeping yourself stocked up on ammo and spheres.

Longer distance travel becomes much easier with a good mount - e.g. Dazemu from the northeast corner of the bamboo groves island where there's a desert area. It's as fast as the ultimate endgame mount if you're on sandy terrain, and dirt roads count!

Have you leveled up your base enough that you can make second one?
If yes, I'd suggest that you'll make a second base that focuses on gathering advanced crafting materials - there's few good guides for base locations and one of those locations is filled with iron and coal (plus raids aren't issue, so it'd be ideal for some industrial and mining base).
Also, catch yourself Vixy or two and put them on a ranch in your base to get lots of gold, arrows and pal spheres - you could also try to catch/ breed a really good one and max rank it via condensator to get higher rank spheres (highest being hyper sphere).
And since pals do most of the hurting and working anyway, you should assign your lvl up points on Health, Stamina and Weight - if you have the stat boost elixirs unlocked in medicine bench, keep making those and chug away (also, supply drop chests usually have one tonic/ elixir depending on the area it drops in).
Hope this was helpful.

What? Vixy can dig up better spheres?
Oh my god, I thought Vixy only digs blue ones... I need to breed a couple of good ones then. This should also help save a ton of resources on making spheres. I used to keep two with the artisan trait, but after blue orbs became irrelevant I left Vixys.

To be honest by the time you get a vixy to 4 star, even the higher level sphears are pretty irrelevant, but they are great fodder for the freezing crusher to make palidium, or even decent enough sell fodder

Well, they are a nice help, if you happen to run in a low level lucky pal - assuming that you like to gather those for breeding purposes - or if you hunt some missing pals in low level areas. :)
Although when you get to Sakurajima, you can (randomly) get ultra and legendary spheres from chests and wreckage in there - not mentioning that supply drops in that area usually have solid 3 to 8 ultra or legendary spheres (I think legendaries are usually on lesser side, but if you set supply drop timer for a low interval, that's ridiculously easy way to get good spheres and other things).
Word of warning, though: as Sakurajima is high level area, you'd better have some strong (and fast) pals to fend off all the aggressive ones. ^^'

Edit: about the mining/ industrial base location I'm using, the coordinates are 188, -38. If you don't have a flying pal, it'll be quite a climb, but the place is completely unreachable by raid parties and has nice amount of coal and iron nodes. :)

The new frog added in the Sakurajima update can be caught super early and basically eliminates the need for a flying mount if you're patient enough, especially when upgraded.

(Though if OP is level 48 that's probably not a concern)

I'm still trying to make the best of houses. And trying unsucessfully to find a way for the metal tiles to not look ugly as heck

Vixy is still good, I always carry a smallish stack of lower spheres to switch to that I don't care if I accidentally hit Q out of habit from strafing in other games... Vixy also provides bones at a rate that I never feel a need to put out my Sootseer. Even though Vixy doesn't dig gold every single time and isn't as good at producing raw gold as Mau, I still added one to my 'Lucky Cat Bank' base. I'd prefer not to have to haul stuff off to do extra processing and selling, so even though there are 'better' ways of making gold, it's nice to have a fast way to buy ammo, etc. without the hassle.

I can also sense a plateau coming on things to do, but I am level 55, working on the last couple achievements, nearly have all my breeding projects finished and have just started breeding things to see if crazy ideas work with different builds. I know I will probably fall off for a bit and I sense a loss of save files a few times as these mega patches roll out, so I am taking some time to LEARN what pals will make me the happiest in the future so I don't get stuck leveling or tied to the base in future runs. A big help is just learning the most useful breeding shortcuts and what pals gain benefits from different stat sets the most.

Big tips:

Condensed pals can be re-condensed and are worth their full value.

Use chest locks and restrictions to your advantage early on so you can just drop stuff at the base for pals to sort so you can adventure more.

Never underestimate dumping points into stamina and weight early on, because dodging a hit is far more important that eating the damage (or dealing it, better to catch EVERYTHING early game).

Spend the time to breed and upgrade base pals so they can do work you don't want to, they also have great and upgradable 'in base' effects that all but stop sanity drop and minimize farming footprint; all suitable work traits upgrade at max condensation as well.

Breed a Dazemu early, they are your best friend as early transport AND in late game dungeons. Dazemu has a ton of breeding combos, but this is my 'lowest' level suggestion:
Nightwing + Caprity

Below is a list of things I've done/you can do to keep things fresh and interesting while you play:

>Spent a ton of time trying to get all the achievements
>Spent a ton of time breeding perfect Pals (Frostallion, Jetragon, Anubis and a few others)
>Have 4 bases I maintain (1 raid base for boss drops, 2 resource farms, and 1 homebase)
>You can spend time decorating your homebase, I haven't bothered doing this but its an option
>You can spend time catching every Pal in the game for completion purposes
>Try Arena/Collosseum thing (I haven't touched this feature so don't know how good it is)

OP surely you mean Lv. 28, right? Lv. 27 unlocks the red Hyper Sphere that you mentioned while 48 would unlock legendary spheres and I'm going to roll up a newspaper and whack you if you tell me you're 48.

To answer your question though, I speed-run, exploit, and generally bend the game to my will for fun while exploring new ways to expand my understanding.

At your level, I haven't touched my base beyond my initial 'base leveling' for additional bases. I use it to begin mining thousands upon thousands of rocks with Digtoise. Soon at Lv. 31 its worth putting an ore site (II) down and at Lv. 29 we unlock the Single-Shot Sphere Launcher which is a must-have.

The base is worthless to work-on before or after, basically until you're a much higher level and the value of your production is worth it. If you waste time on your base now, you'll be too busy doing base-management instead of playing the exploration/adventure aspect of the game.

You're also going to the dungeon for sulfur, but you'd have a much better time if you could explore the world for places that have large quantities of sulfur... and coal. And quartz! Go explore!

No, no. I am 48. And yes, I have access to mega and legendary spheres tech, but I can't craft it because I haven't discovered quartz yet and I can't build all the previous prerequisites for it, starting with sphere factory II.
You can hit me with a newspaper now.

Anyway, I've already started breeding Vixy-s! :meephappy:
