base building tipps
im trying to build a base just with one palbox and fit everything in it but it seems to not be possible.
i tried building a base with 2 floors but pals refuse to go up.
i tried using 2 palboxes but there is the problem that you have to split the materials in 2 chest. food and building mats etc
the expedition center, breeding farm and the pal beds alone take half of the place.
is there any work around, how are your bases look like

you have to build 3 Floors for pals to get in sometimes.
not 2, just destroy the ground on the third floor, and even then, ultra big pals like the mammoth cant get in for obvious reasons,

also watch where you build your stations, as they can block pathing.
A little cramped (i should really raise the floor one level) and ugly but it works.

Main tip would be that the expedition center doesn't need to be on the ground. It takes up a huge amount of space and no pal ever needs to interact with it.

thanks for the pictures guys.
other question do your pals sometimes get stuck or hungry even tho they literally stay infront of the feeding box?

No, if you have 2 squares height floors and leave enough space between any structure (always let a pathing bigger than you think they need) they never get stuck or starve.
Well, starving really depends on foot, i exclusively cook pizza, great overall food, it's important that they have nourishment AND sanity
There is a mod that will increase the range of your base if you want more building space. Want a pro tip though? Don't get that. Don't try to make a mega base for everything. God, I regret doing that so much. Have outposts for everything. Make use of the Guild Chest to have access to commonly used resources at every base (such as stone, wood, metal) or get the mod that allows you to access every base's inventory regardless of what base you are at.
Having a mega base will DRASTICALLY decrease efficiency, as it becomes a logistical nightmare to balance every resource's production, versus food need, versus transporters and their capacity. I also recommend the mod that makes dropped items that are similar automatically combine into a stack, so having high level transporters actually help with ranches.

Also another important detail, pals will always eat whatever's in the FIRST slot of a feeding box first, so manually sort your food so the best stuff is on the left.

(Also put food boxes all over the base near your main crafting stations and distribute salads/pizzas evenly over them, so pals don't need to waste time running through the entire base every time they get hungry. If you've got space, you can do this with beds and hot springs as well)

To avoid pals getting stuck, you basically need 1 foundation's worth of free space around all designated walkways, even having a potted plant clip a few centimeters into this space risks getting in the way of the pathfinding grid. Just because YOU can walk around it, or a summoned pal can walk around it, doesn't mean base pals can do it.

When I built a base in the snow region uphill from the Frostallion Boss spawn, I was building on a slope and the Palbox was next to a ledge, just underneath it. To compensate for the slope, I used pillars. As long as there are 2-tile support diameters for your ceiling tiles (since eventually the slope will be too steep for foundation tiles), then you can essentially keep building forever. I made a long horseshoe corridor on those pillar-platforms alone, kept it open-door with arched roofing, and that's where most of the work gets done. There's enough space for Pals to come and go and the lack of doors keeps them from getting stuck. It's all almost on one "floor" so there isn't a lot of pathing issues. The only stairs I have are to connect the corridor back to the upper-ledges, and the stairs to the greenhouse where the food is grown. With all of the workload placed high above the ground, I kept the lower ground open for the Pal beds, storage and harvesting (mining/lumbering) units and built rooms under the "main" flooring corridors.

There is no penalty to building UP, only beyond the border of the Palbox. Use height to your advantage! Pillars are essential to utilizing space and keeping it easy to traverse through!
