Pals not producing food while offline
my base has 20+ plantations and 2 pals that farm food, yet every time i log in, there's no food and all my pals are starving. did they release a new patch that made it so pals don't produce food while I'm offline, but still get hungry? When I log in, it looks like everything is working fine, so idk what's going on.

That has always been a thing for some reason.. I always put my pals away before logging off just in case.. unless im able to make a massive amounts of foods of higher % and over the 100+ of ech food type.. It's a lot more simple to just put them away until your online again.

Ah, good idea I suppose.
I just sacrifice early game worker pals and let them be sick and injured since theyre going to be replaced anyway and theyre usually quite abundant and easy to capture. You need 12 of em anyway eventually just for exp.

2 pals farming food is nothing though. Unless you have a crazy stock of berries in your feed box, theyre going to starve. 20 plantations, so theyre going one by one taking ages just to plant. Then something comes and waters. Then they gotta wait to grow, then finally come gather them. Idk how exactly it would be, but I imagine having so many plantations with so few workers actually slows them down. You should only have like 4 max berry plantations early game. Then 1 or 2 of other things as your base/tech grows.

And if you only have 2 pals planting/gathering/watering, you should have less than 8 plantations imo. You need way more farming pals and a large stock of food to sustain them while youre off the server. Once you get like 400 salads (depending on how many workers you gave of course), you can be away for 10 hours or so without starving. If theyre just eating uncooked berries, theyre going to be constantly eating because the nutrition is so low, and between that and taking breaks, getting upset because theyre getting only 1 sanity from each time they eat so they refuse to work, its going to spiral into starvation and no production.

That being said, a pal or two may glitch out while youre away and end up starving/injured anyway. But when its your whole base, you know its just a lack of food. Which of course means, you need more farming pals and a larger stock before you go offline.

I did this when I was playing on a friend's dedicated server, because otherwise I'd log in and my pals would all be going insane and it would take me all day to get them sorted, only for it to happen again.
Storing Pals is kind of pointless if you’re playing actively, it only makes sense for a long break.

This game is built around Pal automation to reduce grinding, if you stop your Pals from grinding when you are away, you’re losing a huge amount of time.

I only play on official servers and Pals work fine offline, they eat, heal, and farm resources completely on their own. The only time I noticed them gone was when I didn’t log into my base for 18–24h.

If you play locally with “Start a new game” from the menu, there’s no offline work since the game shuts the server on logout.

You need to start a dedicated local server and play on it. When you’re done playing, you can close the game client, but the server must stay running to handle background tasks!

If the server is running while youre offline, they 100% still continue working.

Pals wont stop playing once you go offline if the server is running.

If this is something that happens on your end, something is wrong most likely.
We play dedicated server which runs 24/7 and every morning my fridges are full of farmed materials which then need to be crafted into foods as you cant automatically craft the foods when resources are available, thats something you must set up going manually.
well, it can happen on servers as well as solo, it only needs pals to go so insane they stop working. and if the reason is hunger well that feeds itself.
if they are so sick from insanity or whatever they might even stop sleeping or eating.
woof afaik that happened with pizza as main food weirdly enough and some other things.
overal nocturnal is something that works best if you can keep pal sanity artificially high with wave emitters.
sadly sleeping prevents em from cooling things, causing spoilage.
its kind of a complicated game.

If i don't play for more than a week, it just deletes my entire base and all the pals in it, so i make sure to play every six days. most of my pals are farming food and they are still all insane and have no food every time i log in. i don't understand it at all.

Idk, that's weird. Could be your specific server. But I never come back to insane or starving pals anymore, except after I built a second layer over my base to put 4 more breeding ranches on it. Now OCCASSIONALLY ill have 1 pal in that base starving and injured when I come back, despite having literally over 50,000 salads/stir fried veggies in my feed boxes. It used to be my chikipi, but im rich enough now that I dont need it. Then it was my penguilette. Dont really need him either, but hes been there since the beginning cooling my fridges, so I just put him in my party, feed him, and throw him back in the base and hes good to go.

Now, I think when that happens, it has something to do with multi-leveled bases. Before I put that second layer over my base, it never happened. However, I also have a castle with 4 floors, completely enclosed. Both bases are built with each floor being 3 walls high (food/breeding base doesn't have walls though, just open air). My castle never has any pals injured or starving when I come back, but the open air base does.

But i also noticed, the only starving/injured pals were very low tier ones. Happened once to my mozzarina, a couple times to chikipi, and now once to my penguin. Maybe that has something to do with it, idk.

Im still convinced its definitely a bug with pathing while youre gone, in some way. They get stuck on something and dont "reset" like they would when youre online. But for it to happen to every pal, I still think that is just a lack of proper nutrition/sanity from food.

Itd be nice to know what kind of food youre talking about and how much of it. A single pal can easily chew through 500 baked berries in a single day. If you got 10 pals, thats more than 5,000 a day, as 500 is a low estimate. Some pals would eat much more. So maybe youre underestimating just how much food you need, idk. Youre talking at least every six days. Thats a long ass time for your food to be eaten up. Things can spiral quickly.

Every 80 or so seconds, your pals do a check for their next action. If they're hungry, they go eat. They may hit the hot spring if their sanity is low. They may get upset and do nothing if their sanity is low. They may just take a short break. All of those possibilities stop production, and could lead to a spiral of no production, overeating disorder, no food. And if youre leaving them with low quality food like baked berries, that means on most of those 80 second checks, theyre going to go eat, because their bar is going to stay hovering around 50%.

That's only a single player thing. Worlds persist on servers.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when i leave my bases that have at least 5 stacks of 9999 salads at each for a few days. Should be enough food, but if they're all starving and sick, I will confirm that something is very buggy about it. Poe2 update coming next friday, so thats when ill stop playing palworld as much.
it's just farms pausing when you are offline all other workspaces work just not farming it like it just has a setting turned off for offline work start a farm let it progress abit then log off wait 10-20 mins log back on the farm is at the exact point you logged off like it's literally just paused definitel;y a bug from single player pausing stuff when logged and they didn't fix properly for dedicated
