How to escape dangerous situations?
My a bit too motivated Pal attacked the trader and his 2 highly armed securities. I tried to flee, but had no chance. Questions: Does my Pal follow without instructions if I run away, or do I have to say "Stop attacking"? And - if fighting is not option and running is not working, what can I do? Hiding? And - will they attack me if I pass by another day, or do the forget my fauxpax? XD

There is a command on the wheel, if you have it set to attack aggressively, it does exactly that. Unless you really are planning on going full rambo, you typically should keep it on "focus on the same target as me".

running should work most of the time, don't run in a straight line. use your grapple line to get yourself a burst of speed if you're not using the new boots that give you more dash (though without mods those are pretty lame and probably shouldn't rely on them anyway...). The main escape thing though is if you hit a slope, be sure to slide and you lose anything chasing you pretty fast.

On flat ground...you're back to grapple for a quick burst of speed.

Without telling it to disengage or recalling it, it will most likely continue attacking.

Even if the Pals are set to aggressive they shouldn't attack NPCs outside of collateral AoE which I do believe will cause the NPC to flag you as hostile. If you can get away without triggering a wanted level they should eventually disengage. I don't recall the time frame, probably has more to do with loading out of the chunk.

The bigger problem is if the NPC flags you with a wanted level which will cause the Pal Police to endlessly spawn on you and for the life of me outside of having a flying pal and just heading to the stratosphere until they give up because they can't spawn to you.... to this day I still don't understand how you're supposed to clear the wanted level normally.

But yeah they should go neutral again.

Edit:
For that specific scenario it sounds like you encountered a roaming/non NPC, it's more likely that if you can get away without netting a wanted level. it's more likely to me that you're probably far enough for the game to cull/despawn the NPC. If you encounter another roaming trader in the same spot it won't be aggressive towards you.

Thanks a lot. Oh oh, that sounds not that good o_O I am really early in the game and can not fly yet. How can I see if I have a wanted level?

If you have a wanted level it will pop up in the upper right corner of the screen and you'd definitely know. You'd have like 4-5 RIPD(?) officers teleporting to you. I think that clears if they kill you or you die(?) but that is the only way I'm aware of outside of getting to a location they can't teleport to.

Edit: there is probably some method that involves breaking line of sight long enough but that's pretty hard with a hostile NPC that teleports to you every 10 seconds or so.

Best way to break unwanted aggro is to flee off a cliff or into the air, ideally on a reasonably fast mount. You can also Crouch-slide down hills for extra speed, which carries over into gliding if you go off a cliff. Enemies don't follow you that far, generally once you're out of render-range of their spawn.

Earliest flying mount you can get is the Nightwing, Level 14-ish for the saddle and common even in early zones. A Celaray (coastlines) or Killamari (Caves) will serve as a better glider than any you can craft for a long time, even if you don't get into breeding for traits. Having both a flyer and a glider makes navigation in general a breeze and escaping from unwanted encounters simple.

Unless you go out of your way attacking villages or trespassing in wildlife sanctuaries, you'll never gain a wanted level and probably forget it's even a mechanic, like I did. If you do commit a crime you'll know because of the endless high-level solider spawns surrounding you. They only stop when you die, there is no other way to clear a wanted level and you won't have the chance to try much anyway.

I might try to catch a Nightwing at first. Looks so fabulous!

Well now I got a tutorial quest of "Catching XY deer in a wildlife sanctuaries". I guess I will not risk that o_O

i havent seen that quest but those sanctuaries might mean the outlying islands with a very weird crystal like look where there are guards that will aggro and chase u even thru the oceans when u are flying. if u got aggroed just fly to like somewhere high or just rest at the seaside and wait for the aggro to die down. i think as long as u dont kill anyone it will drop off aggro like in gta games.

Pals generally won't attack NPCs unprovoked but they hate Black Market merchants just THAT much. So recall your pal before getting close to one.

The best place I've found to lose aggro / wanted levels is being on top of some sort of tower and crouching down so you're in cover and the enforcers can't see you - e.g. the big castle ruin at the beach is a good place for this.

Ah, that might be the reason. The trader was a "Unpleasant trader". Good too know, thanks a lot! And thanks for the hiding spot!
