BUG: chat box freezes controls?

I don't know what's going on here.
I play single player.
I was in the middle of a battle, trying to change to megaballs so I could make a capture.
And I accidentally hit SOMETHING on my keyboard.

What looks like a chat box popped up on the left side - while the game FROZE.
The pal in front of me was no longer moving, I could not take any actions using any keyboard nor mouse commands.

But time kept moving forward.
There's no UI X to click to make the box go away.
I tried ESC > Options > Controls, and there's NOTHING listed there about a chatbox, let alone how to remove it.
The only thing I could do in-game was hit Tab to change the type of chat..???

And since night hit, just wait for all my hitpoints to drain away and died.

I respawned and the chat box was still there, but I can actually do things in game.
Except... much of it is behind the stupid chat box.

This is true. It's still better than it used to be. There used to be a very hard and tiny limit to what you could type.

Wait, i didn't get it all before. Dude, you need to just close the chat box. Hit enter, sometimes you have to hit it two or three times for some reason. But you just turn off the chat because yeah it stops your character because it thinks you want to type. But the game itself doesn't pause.
