Curve Module = useless?
Well, it does curve when you throw it. Right AROUND anything you're trying to capture. Unless you're a pro baseball player, I doubt seriously that you'll ever hit anything with this in your inventory. Went back to the Heavy module. At least I can hit every time with that.
Missed every single time with the curve doohickey.

You've got to aim just so - a bit to one side, not too deep, not too shallow. Personally, I'm not skilled enough, and like you I went back to the heavy module.

straight module is best

I made a post about this 2 nights ago.

The gimmick is interesting but the Risk VS Reward is insanely low. Most of the time it felt like just a Normal Sphere at capture rate +2. And the amount of times you miss VS actually hitting is beyond insane. This is also because if you're trying to capture something close to an object, or wall, your Sphere will just end up hitting everything BUT the pal.

That being said, I did end up getting used to the curve, and aiming it correctly, once that is done, it becomes more enjoyable. But for the amount of Practice you actually need to get the aiming right, especially the critical aiming, the capture rate should be +10, and not just +2.

Coming up on my second module "Sniper" and the capture rate is exactly the same as the Curve Module +2, only I assume that one is going to fly straight, and have a longer throwing range.

It would straight up be nice to get insanely well rewarded for the Curve Sphere, and have it's capture rate be sitting at least at +6, because +2 is not very noticeable from the standard Sphere, or Heavy Module.

If your use the "curve module" correctly you get the off guard capture bonus for hitting the back (problem being pals hitbox can be wonky) i don't know the exact value but it's higher than the weakpoint bonus for the sniping module so you get way more potential capture rate with the curve module than the heavy or sniping module.
So adding more flat +X capture rate would be overkill.

Also the +X capture rate from the modules are low (on purpose to not have a clear meta) so you can ignore it and just take the module you prefer, it's not +1 capture that will make a difference.
Using Ultimate sphere as example : 43 + 14 (lifmunk idols) = 57 so adding +1, +2 or +3 won't change much the end result compared to hitting the back or weak point.

having said all that i don't use the curve module because i prefer the sniping module to go with my "Pals Knight" build (curve ball on a flying mount is annoying to use).

So is it useless ? no, it just depend of what people prefer and want to play with, i don't understand why people are trying to force everything to be meta and kill any form of personal expression in the game.
You don't like it you don't use it, it's the same as when you choose the pals in your team or base, if you can you will take the one you prefer and not the meta ugly one.

The curved module is ♥♥♥♥. Using nothing is better. I based this off of my intensive scientific study of using it and missing more throws than I hit. It's just as bad as you intuitively think it is, maybe even worse. Trust thyself.
I found 2 workarounds for the curved module:
  1. Place yourself directly in front of the pal and turn left. The sphere shoots from your diagonal right side and has a large chance to directly hit the pal. Requires a bit of practice but also readjusting your position when pal moves or breaks free (which kills powering up the throw).
  2. Uporządkowana lista
When the pal has a wall behind it (yes, very rare case) the sphere bounces off the wall and hits it in the back. Obviously rarely usable (best chance are dungeons and Feybreak island).

Nevertheless the module is more frustrating than usefull.
