Pal passives infllicting status effects have too low buildup
I have tested with a renjishi rank 4 (my attacks inflict burn 6) and went on the starting area with an old bow and had to shoot a mamorest around 20 times to get it to burn.

The same old bow without renjishi but with a fire arrow took a single shot to set the same mamorest in fire.

I really wanted to do a burn team with renjishi flaracle jormungard ignis and majex to inflict burn and capitalize on hit, but most of the time enemies die to pure damage before I can get them to burn xD

If you compare early game stuff to late game stuff, The buildup is insane on end game gear like the Drone Launcher that hits 9 times per second autonomously and you can stack the high RPS weapons on top of that so you end up getting the proc almost instantly in high-end boss fights.

You're talking about a high-tier endgame DPS build, can't expect early game stuff to survive long enough to capitalize on it. ;P

While true that something like the drone launcher can quickly apply the status, repeated applications of status on bosses seem to have progressively higher requirements.

You can apply burn almost immediately with the drone launcher but the second application seems to take longer, then the third application seems to take even longer.

There's data online to support this, from what I've seen, but I'm not 100% if that information is accurate or if its just a confirmation bias type thing.
drone launcher doesn't build up any of the passive pals status effect (same for terraria sword).

And on end game stuff with end game weapon I kill them before triggering any status effect as well because the threshold to get the status effect to trigger increases with the level of the enemies (and don't talk about raid bosses). (using drone launcher and combat SMG for instance. Only time I have a chance of setting burn is using the flamethrower but it's because it already can set stuff on fire)

The whole point of the bow test was to see how much the burn 6 of renjishi was effective when compared to the starting bow with a fire arrow. having to hit 20 times for the same effect is pitiful ....
My guess is that it applies 6 points of status build up. By base it takes 100 points for the first application of the status, with the target building a resistance to further applications. My guess is that it's more useful when using weapons that can hit rapidly such as an SMG or the like.
I have tested many pals and noticed that renjishi seems to have the short end of the stick, burning is very hard to apply. Same with poison (dandilord) and blind (venusa).

On the otherhand, got my needoll noct to rank 4 and could apply ivy covered to bellanoir libero (ultra) with half a mag of P90 (I couldn't apply burn with renjishi with 7 full mags dumped into her xD). Same with soak from ophidia which was as easy to apply (20 bullets or so).

I guess the status effects that have direct consequences are "resisted" more easily so they are harder to apply.

And once you applied a status effect to a boss it becomes really hard to apply again (I wouldn't be surprised if they had a period of immunity to that status effect)

it doesn't take 100 because if that's how it worked I would easily apply burn with renjishi and the P90. I think they made most bosses (tested on tower bosses and raid bosses) almost immune to burn/poison/blind.

It did take 20 or so shots to get soak and ivy covered to get applied (and I guess these status effects aren't that detrimental so there are no high resistance to them on bosses so you can actually make builds around them)

And these kind of build are useless against fodder since fodder dies before you can capitalize on the status effect (only place I managed to get some results with these builds was the arena, because you can have 3 pals spaming burn aoe which sets everything on fire very fast)
I believe Panthalus and Astralym are immune to status in their boss fights. Raid Bosses are immune to Poison and Burn. Maybe the Burn and Poison build up skills work differently?

They are not. I was able to Freeze Astralym just fine so he's definitely not immune, maybe the raid version is but normal mode can definitely be statused.
Tried quickly using Dandilord's Partner Skill that applies 6 Poison and using a Semi-Auto Rifle.

Bjorn & Bastigor (Normal): 18 Shots
Zoe & Grizzbolt (Hard): 18 Shots
Astralym (Normal): Wasn't able to Poison, also tried Pals with active skills that can Freeze, Burn and apply Icy-Covered and had no luck. Maybe you can apply status at a certain point or perhaps it has a different threshold?

Don't have a condensed Renjishi to test their Partner Skill.
Pals skills have around: 50-100-200 and 9999 for stuff like poison mist.
Passive is 6 per hit... per hit.

And you are using a bow... a bow... obviously is going to suck if you use snail slow weapons, sadly melee included, instead of rifles/shotguns.

In my case Vs Astralym I was specifically using Frostallion's partner skill. And it actually froze at a very inconvenient time, right as it was supposed to be phase transitioning, so I ended up having to wait about 10-15 seconds for it to thaw out before I was able to progress to P2.
You need to hit something 8 times maxed passive to make the same build-up a pal with a basic elemental skill. Raid bosses have insanely bigger resist to status because other 15 pals throwing ♥♥♥♥ at them.

I was expecting freeze to be on the "resisted" list of status effect, but no, riding a frostalion half a mag of P90 once again was enough to freeze a raid boss (while I remind that 7+ mag were not enough to burn it)

Heck I even tried riding frostalion noct + having venusa in my team and still couldn't blind hartalis or bellanoir even after magdumping 1000 bullets into them xD

It's super broken for Xenolord Ultra, can literally stun lock him the whole fight.

I did all my test either solo fighting normal raid boss or riding a pal for the partner skill.

From what I tested magdumping P90 into raid bosses

Can't poison blind or burn

You can soak / ivy covered/ freeze once quickly but then you can't do it again

Havn't tried electrify or muddy
