If the bow is insufficient, supplement it with the musket until you can unlock the crossbow.
You can go at night, or use a "grenade" jolthog to kill the pingulets in a single strike. Alternatively pals with area of effect skills do well, even if it's more random.
Making the poison bow will also help, most bosses will be poisoned by just one or two arrows and poison deals percentage-based damage that stays relevant throughout the entire game (I legit used it against the Feybreak tower boss who is Lv.60 and has ~500,000 HP).
Or for that matter, upgrading to the crossbow also helps a lot - it's slower to reload but the total DPS is higher since it does so much more damage per hit.
(Later on I'd recommend not unlocking EVERY weapon as soon as you can because it takes a lot of materials to make them all and then make AMMO for them all, it's easy to end up being stretched thin early on before you have a good supply line for the next tier of materials. For instance you'd wanna pick EITHER the revolver or the handgun depending on taste because they fill similar niches, and the makeshifts and the musket will still be useful once you proceed to proper firearms because you get 4 times as much Coarse Ammo for the same amount of materials so they're more cost-efficient when you're fighting something that doesn't NEED you to use your full power)
