How does one capture Mimog?
TLDR Mimog too fast, how catch?

I gotta say, Mimog's giving me fits. Don't misunderstand, I've caught mimogs before. In fact, I've started two playthroughs - one starting fresh for the update but cutting the other off early - and both go-arounds see me having the requisite twelve for the XP boost.

Thing is, I'm not sure how to go about catching them reliably.

For a good part of both runs, what usually happens is I fire, hit Mimog, reload and while I'm reloading Mimog takes off down the road at 0.095 C and I never see that individual again. I've recently taken to chasing it on my Direhowl, but that didn't improve my odds of keeping on it much.

Later on when I acquired either the automaic rifle (pre update) or now that I have the the Semi-auto rifle (post-update), I have more success, and that's generally when I get lucky enough to start sometimes catching one or two. Still, my reaction time is... subpar, so what usually happens is I fire my equipped weapon until Mimog is low-health, reach for the palsphere key and- oh look there he goes under the horizon.

I'm really only in it for the needed Dog coins to get the fourth accessory slot at this point so I don't mind blasting away, but I've gotten the impression that you get more resources for a capture (especially with an accompanying Katress) meaning you don't need to hunt as many Mimogs meaning I can then do other things sooner. Am I right on that?

You just need to deal enough damage to stagger it, either with continuous fire from an automatic weapon, or preferably obliterating it in a single attack like from a shotgun or other high-damage single-shot weaponry. With enough damage and a Ring of Mercy, you can immediately toss a sphere before it recovers from the shock of being blasted.

You get the same resources for killing as you do for capturing, with the exception that you can butcher the pal for their resources again, with the additional exception that Mimog doesn't give dog coins when butchered.

Personally, I just go ahead and build a few defensive walls around it to trap it.
Then with a Ring of Mercy equipped, Unload on it, then throw the sphere.

With the walls up, it can't go anywhere, and then I can catch it at leisure.
So basically, do what I'm already doing but faster.

Or...

Wall cheese (hilarious btw)

Got it.

PS: "We're gonna build a Wall, and Mimog will pay for it!" Couldn't resist.

You can also use abilities that knock targets up like Shockwave, Dragon/Shadow Burst, Tornadoes, etc and they won't run away. There are some exceptions for multi-stage attacks that don't have knock up for all stages like Rockburst where the first hit does lift, the subsequent boulders don't.
use rocket and the mercy ring maybe?
Build a wall around it 4 wall pieces , very simple

Sphere Launcher with a higher level sphere
I've Found Mercy Ring + Rocket Launcher tends to just break their AI, and even if it doesn't usually they'll be at 1 hp left and fairly easy to catch.

Just build walls and a trap

Several ways

1.) Rocket launcher with mercy ring equipped, it will blast them senseless roughly to 1 hp, but they will not run away,

2.) Trample them down when riding a large non-alpha pal, some rideable pals such as Jetdragon does collision damage to smaller pals, mimogs happens to be in this catergory, it will knock them senseless but they will not run away, this method may be tedious and slow.

3.) Box them in, just build a square shape wall surrounding Mimogs, once boxed in, attack until they are in range of getting captured, Mimogs will attempt to run but since they are boxed in, nowhere to run, some occasions it can get out and ruins your chance.

4.) Hanging trap, build it around Mimogs, attack it to get the trap triggered then knock it till capturable

Mostly, I only try to catch them if I run into them in low lvl areas when I'm high lvl with high lvl balls. I've got 13 on my hardcore game, and all male...
build walls around it (fundations first, then walls) and it can't run away.
Build walls around it and/or hanging trap

i used one of my fenlope's ability and punted it around (the one that charges the enemy while riding). it seems to go immediately back to 'mimic' mode if you manage to boot it far enough. poor eyesight i guess XD

Ring of mercy, some kind of attack that'd be otherwise a 1-hit kill (but will NOT set them on fire or otherwise do continuous damage, or that ring won't help), and a quick sphere toss with your best sphere. If you fail, fly very high, see if you can see where it ran, and wait for it to chill out, then run in close and throw another sphere.

It's not easy to do (and the result is pretty overrated - it's not very strong in combat, its partner skill isn't worth keeping it in your party, it can be a good transport pal but a Faleris Aqua or three will be better because of other work capabilities, and the breed-to-slaughter route is pretty high-effort high-resource.
