Bjorn is a real reality check (SPOILERS)
I played through most of the game without really needing to prep too much for anything, handling all the tower bosses and enjoying dungeons, just goofing around. Whenever I died it was my fault. I did lots of breeding and base-building and automating, but because I find that kind of thing fun. And then I got to Bjorn.

Bjorn was surprisingly difficult; coming in with a galeclaw for movement and 4 L60 4-star +60 4-legendary-passives Jormuntide Igni was not nearly enough; I could get him down to about 2/3 health by the time I hit the 10m timeout each time.

One defect in perspective is my bad - I was generally not involving myself in combat enough, relying on my pals to do damage and mostly trying to stay out of the way. That doesn't work for Bjorn. Another defect is not paying enough attention to custom skill loadouts. But finally I also had to bring in a ragnahawk (L60, 4-star +60, with 4 legendary passives of course) and just 3 JIs to have a good shot at it, committing to doing most of the damage with a Legendary Advanced Bow (that I had specs for in one of my chests, unused).

This finally got my DPS high enough to beat that guy, after dozens of prior attempts mostly ending in timeouts.

I'm getting ready to put down the game again until the next major update; I enjoyed doing a few raids (and have some Bellanoir Liberos and Blazamut Ryus in my breeding process now) but probably wouldn't enjoy the added fuss of the final raid or the new rig; that feeling of progress is now replaced with a feeling that there's not much left to do, for now.

Is Bjorn like this for everybody?

Question: Why jorn ignises isntead of pyrin + 4 vanguard gobfin build + flamethrower build?

I saw some videos on that, but I felt the gobfin route to be a little too cheesy and unnatural for my tastes. Not dissing people who do it, mind you.

He's the only boss I've had to try more than once, and he went down on the second try. I went in unprepared and simply didn't have the dps to win in 10 minutes with my usual team.

Ended up having to head back to base, breed a team of Blazamuts, leveled them up, and won in about 7 minutes.

Were you already taking a very involved role in battle at that point? Or to put it another way, do you think you could've done it with only your pals doing damage?

I was already doing all I could to deal damage and keep my team alive, but I had no fire pal in my party, and lost my Shadowbeak early in the fight which was one of my strongest pals. I feel like there's no way the pals could get the job done by themselves.

So heading back to base, breeding 4 mostly perfect Blazamuts, and feeding myself and my pals mammorest curry gave me the dps edge I needed to pull off a clean win.

Shadowbeak is one of those pals that I've heard really good things about but which I haven't tried at all (caught a few, never put one in my party). Maybe I'll play around with one a bit before I put the game down this time. Not for Bjorn obviously, but maybe for another of the hard-mode tower bosses (I've only done the first one so far and wasn't planning on doing the others).
