Best mid game flying pal? Looking for tips.
I only have a boss nitewing as my flying pal currently and I can't fly far with it. I just got the pals I needed to make cake. Has trouble getting a beegarde because they explode mid fight. I've mostly been using the boss direhowl I caught because she came with runner.

if you can get a rayhound with runner or without, its a tad faster than direhowl. but for flyers, get vanwyrm, then Baekon. after that its pretty much preference until jetragon. i prefer to glide around with hang yu and grapple gun. flyers for vertical climbs for me.

Flying speed in order from slowest to fastest: Nitewing, Vanwyrms, Quiverns, Helzephyrs, Suzakus, Beakon, Shadowbeak, Ragnahawk, Faleris, Frostallions, Jetragon.

I typically go from Nitewing, to Beakon, to Ragnahawk, to Jetragon.
Just be mindful about pal types if you're exploring maps before developing full temperature resistance, using Vanwyrm to scale a volcano is a common accident.
Ragnahawks can be found on the south-west beach of the volcano. They are the fastest you can get mid-game.

Main concern is saddle requirements. One can find eggs or breed their way to better mounts, but the saddle requirement can't be avoided.

Helzephyr at 33. Beakon at 34. Ragnahawk at 37. Faleris at 38. Etc.

Ragnahawk's saddle is super easy to make.

Interrupt the kamikaze attack with a stun, or fly in the air so they can't attack you, or throw a ball to interrupt the kamikaze attack(only if chance is not so low that you critical fail), or shoot it to get honey drop and just breed it.

I'd say go with Ragnahawk, but you are not even level 37.

You'll eventually want a really good Ragnahawk for one of the endgame battles. Even once you're no longer using it as a normal flying mount, keep the breeding of it up until you have it quite strong.
I am level 43 I've been catching 12 of everything I can find. Also running alot of dungeons. I should probably go fight the free pal alliance boss. I've more than likely outleveled them. My current pals are lvl 39.

Take a look at some of the glider pals, too.

Hangyu can get you up high, and also lets you go very far and very fast into the horizon when you use it with a grappling gun. Kilamari can't get you as high as a Hangyu, but you get to bolt around in an almost straight trajectory instead. These two are rivaling even Jetragon for traversal, provided that you have some extra stamina for them, like at least 150 or something.

For combat, right now I just can't shake going back to Dazemu and Rockburst/Shockwave the crap outta everything no matter how different I start with. It's just way too good for such a low level requirement.

Hangyu and gliders... I'm crying in joy rn. Can't recommend enough as well.

For flying mounts, Vanwyrm you can get pretty easily they spawn near Azurobe and will give you critical hit bonus for mounting it - pretty useful.

As others have said, Ragnahawk is incredibly fast and will be very useful for a couple bosses due to its elemental bonus damage.

I personally am a Hangyu cultist and would like to shill it to the ends of the earth - I rarely use flying pals - but if you really want a flying mount then I recommend either of the above pals.
Beakon and Ragnahawk
Come to think of it I'm pretty sure I saw a Ragnahawk when I was over at the fishing village buying stuff. I was just out of spheres. Which is perfect because I'm planning on going back over there after work once I have spheres. Need to get some pals with level 3 kindling anyways. I can't make ingots fast enough. Hopefully some kindling research and the improved furnace I need to make anyways for a base level up speeds up my ingot production.
I strongly prefer Faleris for the tier of "after early game, but before legendaries"
It isn't the fastest, but it has good speed outside of legendaries and it has fantastic stamina. it can stay airborne for forever, and by the time you can make the saddle (38) you can have the infrastructure to breed one with a few good traits (eternal engine and swift if you have them)
I have yet to encounter a Faleris so I have no idea where it is.
