Why won't pals carry stuff?
I have a farm going, and any time I come back to it there's food on most of the plantations. I've even seen a stack of food disappear because it was left on the floor too long. I've left all my Verdashes enabled with carry, and I have an Anubis that only carries, but still, all the stuff is on the ground. They're obviously working, because the plantations make the food, but no one will put it away.
They have a cold food box to put things in, and they're obviously capable of doing this because they do it now and then.

Any ideas why this isn't working? It's ruining the flow of my bases.

NOTE: I'm not playing multiplayer, so this isn't the multiplayer bug where pals don't work when you're gone. They ARE working, just not carrying.

I've had this issue as well with pals that are set to only transport. I believe what is happening is the game isn't calculating pals out of render properly. If I stay near the base they do just fine but if I'm a reasonable distance away then the stuff starts to stack up, this happens not just with the plantations but really any resource gathering station.

transport have low priority so if something comes up they drop items to do that instead. use the monitor stand to have a dedicated pal for transport.

maybe they can't reach it.
Yeah they're on transport only and can totally reach it. I guess it might be the out of render issue. That's really frustrating, because there's no fix for that except going AFK at this base rather than my other one. Interestingly, the other base, the Anubis won't pick anything up if I'm present, lol. The working aspect of this game really needs some work.

Thanks for the help.

Sometimes I have issues with certain types of pals not doing much transporting. Just because they have a high Transport skill level, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are the best choice for the job. If they have a dozen other base skills, then they will be trying to utilize all these skills and spend less time on just one. Also, physical movement plays a role in efficiency.

From my experience, my favorite transporter pal is Vanwyrm. Try putting one or two of them in your base and turn off their Kindling skill at the Monitoring Stand. They will keep your base clean much better than most pals.
Yeah, any of the birds/wyrms should help with transporting as they have a huge magnetic draw for picking up stuff.

Also double check you have ingredients checked on for your food containers. I've sworn up and down that I've had stuff enabled or disabled yet stuff does or doesn't make it in because there was a mistake in the box filter.

It doesn't work like y'all probably think it does. Separate transport goods by 'Ground Items' and 'Container Items' for lack of a better term atm.

Ground items, regardless of transport level, will always be picked up one at a time. Go ahead and conduct an experiment - drop 100 items on the ground and watch a hangyu (Lv.2) pick them up Vs. Wumpo (Lv.4). Hangyu will win every time because its movement speed is the only thing that matters when it comes to ground items. Wumpo is slow af, only good moving items into a nearby chest on mining sites.

This is why your items are stacking, you have a ton of slow pals... despite what you'd think about Verdash. Thus, for farms, put Vanwyrm or some other bird and watch your troubles disappear. It definitely has some weird 'magnet thing' going on like Rainy says.

If its STILL stacking, then add more pals until balance is met.

to add on to this
level 1 transport is a single item (could be two, but I never see two items let alone have anyone transporting with less than level 3)
level 2 is five (of a stack)
level 3 is ten (of a stack)
level 4 is twenty (of a stack)
level 5 is fourty (of a stack)

most birds, when they have the transport skill, is at level 3 and this lets them move stacks of 10 easily. It will not, however, pick up and stack items that are separated into 10 groups of 1 at once, so in such a case, you want fast transporters. Surprisingly the solution is still birds because they have great transport speed AND movement speed together plus a magnetic effect. Both Faleris types are kings of transport and when fully fused will be moving entire harvests instantly and quickly. If you want a base cleaned up of items at all times of day, both vanwyrm and the cryst version are also good as they are nocturnal transporters still at level 3 . Cryst is also a good refrigerator as refrigeration at night is really really good. (*edit, seems I forgot the Helzephyrs, they are good too, and lux can be used for electricity at night)
If you just want to move ores and wood around, knocklem is a good option.

On another note, about mimog.
Sure mimog gets to an item quickly, but its speed drops like 60-70% when it gets an item, so if it has to go anywhere to deposit something, it's awful. So for those saying it's good, it's really really not. Tho I suppose you can name it Jeeves or something and have it take your equipment for you. "I don't need this undershirt , take it away" and you can drop it and instantly have the little guy appear and start taking it to a box.

I switched from Anubis to Vanwyrm, and WOW immediate difference. Like huuuuuge difference, thanks!!!
I had Anubis doing ONLY carrying, everything else was turned off. Switching to a bird was like night and day.
I'm taking advantage of this topic to ask something related:

How can I make pals pick up things from a production point and store them?

For example, a pal that I have set to only transport and store, pick up the material produced in a quarry or a furnace and move it to a chest.

If they're not doing that, you might not have the box checked that lets them. When in the crafting machine, there's a little box that says pals can move stuff. Make sure that's checked.

I don't see that checkbox on the furnace or the quarry.

I'm relatively new to the game. Where can I see those checkboxes?

Just underneath the amount of stuff you're telling it to make, there's a small checkbox that talks about Pals can transport goods.

Thanks, the option was a bit hidden. I've been able to set it in most stations except for the quarry, which doesn't have a production menu or I don't know how to make it appear. The only thing it allows me to do is start chopping and harvesting.

because those are not production stations, they are resource stations. Pal's should transport from there if they have nothing else to do, but it's simple enough to swing by yourself and grab it and put it into a nearby box too.
Do be sure the edge's aren't outside the base tho as they don't seem to want to take anything from there if happens.
