Increased Drop-Rates for specific Elements

Can someone explain to me how this partner skill works exactly? If the skill is level 5 I get 80%
Does that mean I get 80% more loot straight away or is there an 80% chance that I get double the loot?

Does the pal have to defeat the opponent or is it enough if he is just actively outside?

I tried to get more dog coins with Katress, but I only get more sometimes.

i assume its a 80% bonus modifier on the find rate

ie this item has a 1% chance to drop boasted by 80% is only a 1.8% chance to drop. big sounding bonus that while doubles the find rate of the item effectively its not really that much with the 30000 foot view

Assuming 40 are dropped normally.

What does the 80% mean then

And does the pal have to do the killing? Because if I shoot it down, I don't seem to get a bonus even though the friend is active.
