ERROR! Failed to install app '2394010' (No subscription)
Hi. This has been a problem before (according to my research), but apparently it's showing up again --- I've been unable to install a Palworld dedicated server with anonymous login because I get the error mentioned in the title.

The following is the output of the command: (running a WIndows server, as the same PC also runs some games that don't have Linux servers available)

.\Steam\steamcmd +@ShutdownOnFailedCommand 1 +force_install_dir "$PSScriptRoot/$BaseDir/$GameDir" +login anonymous +app_update $AppId validate @ExtraArgs +quit

Redirecting stderr to 'C:\SteamCmd\Steam\logs\stderr.txt' Logging directory: 'C:\SteamCmd\Steam/logs' [ 0%] Checking for available updates... [----] Verifying installation... Steam Console Client (c) Valve Corporation - version 1726605427 -- type 'quit' to exit -- Loading Steam API...OK "@ShutdownOnFailedCommand" = "1" Connecting anonymously to Steam Public...OK Waiting for client config...OK Waiting for user info...OK ERROR! Failed to install app '2394010' (No subscription)

So uh, does anyone know of a workaround for this problem that doesn't involve logging in as non-anonymous? (I'd rather not login with my personal Steam account for security reasons)

bump. Still have the same problem since weeks, no reaction from devs sadly.
Have you troubleshot it by doing one command at a time vs one long string? Force your install folder after login and then install the app.

I use the default folder so I just login and install and it works fine for me.

You know not a single PocketPair dev lurks on steam forums right?
This is a platform that sell the game, no more no less.
If you want to be heard, use the ingame feedback/bug report system

I indeed also have submitted a ticket via their ticket system on forms.pocketpair.jp/palworld a few weeks ago. But thanks for the info, i'll take a look if the ingame report system is another layer to use.

Already tried, but tried that again. Message "ERROR! Failed to install app '2394010' (No subscription)" keeps popping up. Also tried line by line
steamcmd -> force_dir -> login anon -> app_update
steamcmd -> login anon -> force_dir -> app_update
steamcmd -> login anon -> app_update
Neither of those worked, sadly.

Which system are you on and which steamcmd version do you use?
I use a win server 2022 core standard and Steamcmd patched to version 1726605427.

I keep my SteamCMD up to date and it just updated so I couldn't say at the moment. I just use a little client machine with Win11 on it I bought years ago for my server since my Linux machine was getting old and I needed Windows for some of the servers I wanted to host.

I wonder if it's related to you using Windows Server or something specific about that machine (I know it makes no sense but...).

Have you tried to install the server on a normal Windows 10/11 installation? I feel like it could be security related or something else like that but I can't say for certain, I haven't touched Win Server since 2012.

Good luck!

It is related to Windows Server for sure.

I've tried a Linux server a few days ago, and that one seems to be working fine. I need a Windows server because of a number of mods, however (UE4SS doesn't seem to support Linux).

Seems like the developers forgot to mark the Windows server as free of charge / not tied to a purchase?

On my part, it is a normal installation. Well, LTSB (as opposed to consumer/edge), but still a "normal" Windows 10, and not Windows Server.

The error "no subscription" pretty clearly indicates a problem with the distribution settings, in my opinion. It's basically Steam telling me that I (or rather: the anonymous account) don't/doesn't have a license to install that thing.

Not sure what to tell you. It sucks and if you put the word out then I guess you'll have to figure out an alternative in the meantime.
