Should I keep base pals at 15? Would increasing it be overpowered?
I'm around level 45 right now, and the 15 pal limit at my bases has been giving me a bit of a struggle. I can manage, it just takes a fair bit of optimization with the few slots I have.

I saw that you can increase it. How does everyone view this? Is this considered cheaty, or is upping it something that everyone does? If I were to increase it I'd probably bump it up to 20-25.

Basically I'm not sure if the cap being 15 is for balancing reasons, or if it's like that by default so servers don't get insanely laggy from everyone having 50 pals at each base.

Raising the cap enables your base to become an industrial powerhouse, which means you can spend more time exploring and fighting and less time crafting and resource collecting.

If playing multiplayer, I'd think it all depends on the people you're playing with. If on someone else's server I think they've got the ability to change the max number of pals on base AND the max number of bases allowed after bases have been fully upgraded.

If playing single-player, I really don't think it matters. Feel free to experiment!
Since your base pals are stuck on the base grounds, it's not like it significantly increases your firepower or anything. Simply building a wall around your base prevents raids (the kind that spawns outside your base and charges in) from attacking you completely, so it's not an issue from a defense standpoint (in single-player, at least).
The main area where it could be a balance issue might be raid bosses (the pals you summon from the alter), since having 50 pals to fight would make a big difference in defeating them- but raid bosses are so tough anyways I'd think it would be a welcome difference. ;)

Hope this helps!
I always assumed that this restriction was to reduce lag if your computer was slow or for multiplayer servers to run faster.

I always increase the limit when playing and it does not seem to have adverse effects.

Since your base only operates if you are in it or close by, the game encourages you to put everything in one base.

Right now I have my main base, and a separate one nearby for farming and breeding. Pals are so dam hungry

I just started playing a few days ago, kept all settings on default to try and have the "vanilla" experience. This'll probably be the one setting I change, along with the death penalty one...
I always max the base and pal limit.

+1 this game still have enough time-wasting mechanics to struggle with pals micromanage.

I asked this about three days ago. I think I should do the same honestly. I decided to keep the limits, but really I'm playing it single player. Why can't I utilise all my pals and go off doing more fun things.
i upped mine on my server from 15 to 20 when sakurajima came out, if they keep adding more buildings ill increase again. why need more than 1 base for mining or farming, we are still limited in the total number of bases we can have. I have a mining/production base, farming/cooking, and breeding/egg hatchery. That leaves 1 base i can use for raids.

Personally tapped maximum pals for pal base and access to up to 3 bases. But that is because we play with couple of players at tops so its not heavy to operate. If you have server with 5+ people constantly playing nad have multiple bases with 25 pals... that will get heavy in the long run, just requires more server restarts thats all.

I see anything non default which can advantage the player as cheat! Muhaha.

Guess it’s only cheating if it makes the game more fun for someone else, huh? But hey, enjoy your purist experience while the rest of us have some creative freedom.

That's odd, my bases run just fine when I step away from them.
i set mine for i think 40 pals per base... not sure i might have even maxed it to 50 after..
also 10 bases total (since i'm playing singleplayer)
BUT i haven't actually put that many in any base and i probably won't.. i have around 22-25 in my "main base" and each base after has slightly less..
don't see a point to maxing each base... yet. (technically i can't actually, yet, haven't fully leveled up the palbox yet either)
so sure, increase the setting, but if you don't need them all there then don't fill the base.

You're actually correct. If you set up a guild chest you will notice resources being taken into it if you set up pals to transport from another base.

Try up to like 25 or so. This will still give you a new pal every time you upgrade your base - you will reach a point around level 45 where you have everything you could need for the most part though.

Max bases, Max Pals :) Even then, at around lvl 45 I only use half the Pal space, i could use more, but dont need to and I survive great. its just a nice option.
