Ring of Mercy failing to work with Meowmere
I couldn't see any mention of this so thought I should bring it up, I use the Ring of Mercy a lot but when I unlocked Meowmere I found out that it randomly ignores my Ring of Mercy and drops pals to 0hp rather then leaving them at expected 1hp.

the mercy effect seems to fail on multi hit stuff, as in anything that hits a target more than once per attack (not counting status effects)

I don't know if this is a known bug or if they can fix it.
from what I can tell it seems to be only certain multi hit attacks like fire, acid or poison for the most of it, the tornado attacks never ignore the effect even though they clearly do tons of multi hits against the pals. I would say it is because they are damage over time attacks but Meowmere doesn't apply such a effect and it isn't specific to the bounce back from hitting walls as many of the times it ignored the ring the attack just passed through multiple targets and bounced away from where the Pals I had been battling was.

Ring only protect from direct damage, it can't protect from selfhurt.
All negative effects that deal damage count as self damage as their source, not the player or player pal. So burn, poison, dragon fire, etc can kill pal even when you have ring equiped.
As for meowmere, its probably because of the bounce effect, as when it bounce from other target in might change damage source and this is not exactly count as player damage, so...
You probably want to use something without any status effects, most optimal weapon for this is rocket launcher. Big damage, knockout and you never kill anything that you want to catch.
I was kind of figuring that was the case when the meowmere hits the ground it just fires a new shot off up to so many times, Though would that really impact the shot when it impacts a creature? because I've used it on mammorest before and they still pass completely through and keep bouncing around on the ground. I would have thought if hitting a pal trigger the change of damage source it would have used up the bounce counter that counts down till the shot disappears before it even gets through the mammorest's model.

The Terraria counterpart has the projectile hit enemies 4 times before vanishing. Maybe the Palworld version does that too?
