Pal Books instead of Pal Spheres
I think a cool solution to the palspheres patent issue could be to use books to summon your pals instead of pal spheres.
as for catching, you could have a mechanic where lashes of light come out of the book to pull the pal inside so you aren't *throwing* anything, you're holding it and trying to pull the creature inside.

So like when we "summon" a pal we open the book it floats while our other hand gestures "Over there" somehow and that's where the pal spawn from, as a spark or magic glitter form the book?

I'm sold.

EDIT: What about changing balls to something else like a quill that's writing a magic contract in the air and the progress of the contract reflects the % of being captured visually? Normally the ball shakes and a percentage to catch number fluctuates visually.

Why is this considered a good idea? I thought the game was more focused on tech stuff, not magic. Why is the human suddenly a wizard?

why do you link a book with wizardry? a book can be simply a tech device that suck in and send out the pals, dematerialize and backwards like a teleport device in star trek.

and yet people are already crying at changes that are being made ingame to avoid lawsuits. You just cant please people.

isnt the pattern that was trademarked a "capture monsters with a device and send them out?" meaning it doesnt matter if its a book, crystal or other non round object.

I think having it be a cube where a light comes out and the pal materialises from it fits better with the whole cyber tech looking world

That's because they need to forego good mechanics because Game Freak decided to patent "throwing a ball"
people are complaining because they downgraded it, but if they could keep it as a good mechanic without violating the patent, then they could iterate on the mechanic and patent it themselves.

Why fight for logic at all? There is no need to create any objects with which pals are summoned, let it be the power of thought.
