Now that you mention it, I'm curious. I remembered Pocketpair saying Palworld was at 60% completion upon it's release back in January and haven't mentioned what percentage it's on now with the Sakurajima update or what percentage it'll be with the December update. I wonder if the December update will get Palworld out of early access or close to completion?

I'm sorry, Pocketpair are currently facing a lawsuit against nintendo. This is also not a live service game and as such updates will be slow but good sized.

They just now announced a major update for Palworld in December.

It's likely not 1.0, but that just means they have even more to add to the game, and more refining.
They already have teased that the new island is going to be even bigger than Sakurajima was.

Allow me to enlighten you. A full release is also known as version 1.0 and since we are currently on version 0.3.10 don't expect the game to jump to version 1.0 with the next update. My expectation is we will jump to version 0.4 so still only about half way there.

That's not how it works. Version number progression is whatever.

Yes it is, the version number is actually not random and reflects the amount of progress in an update. A major update will usually increase the 0.x number and a minor update will usually increase the 0.0.x number. And a full release always has the number jump to 1.0 or higher. While developers can obviously always skip numbers if they wish, Pocketpair has so far followed this exactly. The first version was 0.1, the Bellanoir update made it 0.2 and the Sakurajima update made it 0.3

So it is whatever. Also 0.4 doesn't mean that it's about halfway there. It can mean that, but more often than not it doesn't mean that.

Actually it kinda does like I already explained. I also explaned that developers can choose to skip numbers if they wish, but so far Pocketpair has followed it exactly. So it is in fact not "whatever". I understand that this is disappointing to you and therefore you choose not to believe it as seems to be the way for a lot of people these days.

No, they did not follow it exactly.

Release was 0.1.2
Bellanoir was 0.2.0.6
Sakurajima was 0.3.1

They will call it 1.0 when they feel satisfied with the state of the game and that will more likely than not happen before an eventual 0.9.

Version numbers are mostly an internal tool.

Honestly I think they weren't working with the idea of selling millions upon millions of copies upon release in the coming launch weeks. It might just be that they want to get a bunch of things into 1.0 they didn't plan for when they released the game to early access because they were worried about running out of money before they could, which certainly isn't the case anymore.

So perhaps the initial 60% guesstimation might be more like 50% or 40% now considering the new possibilities the massive success of early access opened up to them. Just speculation because we don't have official statements regarding this matter.

I care. I played Palworld quite a bit but my general rule is "never play til it's out of early access" because usually the game is rough and incomplete.
