I have a base quite close to one, but it's on top of a giant pillar so nothing can wander in.
I've never tested it though.
LOL, your comment made me laugh. I wouldn't count on the pal box stopping anything. I personally only build on those "designated" areas clearly created for placing a base.
Anything else I think is pushing your luck. I mean it might turn out fine, or you might have to move the base if it doesn't work out for you.
♥♥♥♥, you can even put it in the place at the beginning where the level 30 something mammorest is and it'll wander through with no problems. Other than maybe being in the way for a second.
I used to think it was cool. I would just have em wonder on through every now and again.
IDK what happened, but that all changed when one of my pals somehow damaged it, while fighting off something else. lol
RIP base. :(
Yes, I've had a Mammorest or two wander through my base in that starting area. At least the Mammorest is neutral in that it will only attack if you attack it first. None of the meteorite pals are neutral that I've seen. They seem to attack anything near them. Often another pal. I usually let them fight it out, then move in to finish off the survivors.
I think if you don't score the kill then the drops don't happen; the meteorite ore that the foes drop can be pretty handy. If you agree then it's worth getting involved in the scuffle.
In single player I think you can also set your stuff to not decay. Not sure, maybe no damage too.
I think the best base location I've found is up on top of that huge octagonal structure in the Astral Mountains, west of Icy Weasel Hill teleport marker. The one with 4 treasure chests on it. Perfect base location.
Having your base taken out by a meteor to the palbox would be some vanilla Rimworld level jank. Not going to lie, I'd probably laugh if it happened to me. I'd be pissed, but I'd laugh.
If you destroy the ore spot, they will stop spawning.
I haven't done it, but I'd bet if you marked every spot where you see a meteor drop, at some point, they would just repeat at those some places. Pretty much everything in this game (and most games) are like that. The eggs don't spawn in random spot either. The same spots over and over. The chests the same spots. Why would the meteors be any different.
One way they can make something seem random, is to have 100 locations where they spawn, but then only use one of those 100 every 3 hours. Sound familiar?
