Besides that though.... yeah the loot tends to be junk. Ammo is the best of it, but lots of the ammo is of the course variety or arrows.... and you tend to get low-tier palspheres a lot too. And sometimes bread.
There are (or were) mods to change human drop tables so they sometimes drop the weapons they're using as well as more ammo and stuff. That was cool. Haven't checked again since Sakurajima though.
Supply drops and meteors don't spawn on the starter island. I've had quite a few instances where I was building my base for a few hours then went to another island to fetch something, and the instant I got to the other island's boundary area, it spawned a meteor or supply drop... suggesting the timer had expired and was waiting for me to meet the location condition.
PLUS the other day on one of my lower-level playthroughs I saw a supply drop and died trying to claim it.... then got a raid on my base moments after respawning there... so I know they're not mutually exclusive.
As for human drops, the only best drops from human enemies are mostly from Syndicates Elites, who drops the rocket launcher ammo by chance
Crank up the spawn rate to 3x and farm the syndicate elites in the upper parts of the desert island for their ammo
As stated by the other posters, you have a chance to get circuit boards from the Pal genetics in the frozen north, and Polymer from the Brotherhood cleansers, just crank up the spawn rate to 3x to maximize the chance of a circuit board or polymer dropping from the specific enemies.
You can also turn off raids if you want to. I started off with them on. But one of my bases was made on the Penking beach specifically because that spot can't be raided. But after the last big update, it now can be raided. Rather than mess with redoing it or moving it, I just turned raids off.
