No worries! I'll reiterate:
The glitch allows you to walk past large pals like Jourmantide, or an alpha pal. These pals would normally block your grapple hook, forcing you to painfully move 100,000 pounds of ingots at times.
You can drop the items and roll while picking up, but this glitch feels like it could be easier if we can make it consistent.
My character walks when I open the paldex or storage box, probably the menu overlaps movement key press - but not at a direction I desired.
To influence the direction, offset the camera from where you want to go. If the palbox is my target and it's North of me, I'm looking East or West.
Input A+D / Left+Right as fast as possible non-stop while beside the storage container you wish to manipulate. This next part is seriously the hardest: Press F without interrupting your cadence. To reiterate, do not stop pressing A+D in rhythm. If the glitch isn't working, it's because you weren't tapping A+D fast enough or you stopped one of them while pressing F. (Like rubbing your tummy and head in opposite directions).
If you do this right, almost every time you will begin walking either left or right and hopefully it's towards your goal hahaha.. I'm sure there's a more reliable method though.
I just don't see the point, it doesn't make you any faster. It stops as soon as you push the button related to the direction you are going.
pffft of course, thank you!
The point is for taking the inventory screen with you to other parts of your base - particularly, the palbox. Then you put, maybe say, 5 stacks of 9999 rocks into your inventory and you don't have to deal with encumbrance.
Just leaving something to interact with nearby furnaces is great for navigating past jourmantides. Can't grapple through pals as of now so this is my bandaid solution.
If it did I wouldn't be relying on such jank, but I appreciate the thought :)
I assure you I'm grappling around places to get around - Heck, I don't have a mount at level 53, I'm still using hangyu and a grapple hook lol... but there is literally one instance I can't grapple past jourmantide within my base. Hopefully they allow grapple to pass through pals one day.
Yes, that would be nice.
Random thing, since I kind of misspoke earlier. If you are climbing something and are heavy, you can hit C to fall, when jump doesn't work.
This is random but, if you run down hill or down stairs and hit C you can slide, kind of fun, not sure it's useful.
And if you want to have a couple good launches, use your grappling on the ground a ways in front of you, so your character can build up speed and then hit jump right before you get to the end to launch forward.
The same can be done upward, if you hit the ctrl key when grappling to the leading edge of something.
The grappling gliding trick is useful for getting to the oil rig faster, without swimming the whole way or having to get on and off a flying mount. You can make it more than half way, farther with more stamina and a higher vantage point, and the obvious good glider.
You may have all ready known this but maybe an onlooker didn't. Any way, cheers!
I meant to imply such when mentioning my hangyu X grapple hook combo, but by all means I always support the spread of good knowledge :)
I'll simply add on with a few full cycles under my belt, Hangyu is by-far the best glider in the game with low stamina drain and absurd max speed. Combined with the grapple method above, you can go faster than most late-game mounts before level 20 AND it glides up so you gain height rather than lose it.
Best utility pal with so much synergy like Hangyu x Croajiro.
Now I'm kind of interested further, when would you really want to give up two pal slots, or even one, for such an endeavor? I can think of a scenario where giving up your attack damage through Gobfins on the oil rig, or using a Dogen, or simply flying wouldn't be getting more for your efforts. But, I obviously can't think of all circumstances. Of course, I also understand if you don't want to give away too much with prying eyes.
Hangyu x Croajiro is an example of an early~mid-game synergy. You can get all of that versatility out of a hyper grapple-hook and hangyu in the late-game.
It ultimately comes down to playstyle. I love efficiency and all, but I'm also lazy. Hangyu's utility can't be understated:
You can build while hovering
You can shoot rockets and redeploy hangyu.
You can shoot pal-spheres and redploy hangyu.
FAST for 0 effort
Idk how it is on SP, but on multiplayer Hangyu becomes even more cracked because you start rubberbanding a lot. Great odds hangyu launches you over a mountain like the pal ball launch trick, so it's peak for exploring any terrain.
I'm a little before the hard-mode towers but all end-game content has been wiped by rockets and whatever my pals feel like contributing so I haven't bothered to change the formula. Like, I have a suboptimally bred Shadowbeak right now[Swift/Run/InfStam/Musc.], but I don't have the patience for mounting it... lost it I guess, haha. Heck, I can barely wait to drop off of hangyu sometimes.
Edit: I re-read your message and realized you may not know of slide's utility. There's more like a bunnyhop, but the relevant bit here is Croajiro. If you activate his (no saddle) ability then he will stay in place and await your touch before launching you in the air. If you combine this with a slide, you will carry all of your speed into the jump... MORE, if you release your Hangyu glider the moment Croajiro springs you, it will LAUNCH you into the sky with extreme reliability. Peak early travel.
