Yep. You're right. It increases the rank that you up by condensing.
Personally though, I think the most valuable item in that shop is the IV potions for pals cause the other items, including the rank up one, has a relatively easier method of obtaining them, like supply drops, crafting and just plain breeding (which is a problem in itself). Getting the IV potions is a bit bothersome.
Dude, what a load of dog s***! I can't believe the game tries to trick you into spending 2000 dog coins for something you can easily get by breeding and condensing. Thank you for saving me so much time.
The only unanswered question now is what passives should I get onto my Katress?
"Destructive" - destroy your enemies
"Bottomless Stomach" - eat your enemies whole
"Glutton" - greed in consuming your enemies
"Pacifist" - resolve conflict by ending your enemies quick
Yeah, tell me about it while you weep for this dude.

PS: there's no point into capturing Mimics, since butchering them don't earn you dog coins again, but you can get train scrolls GG which is nice.
PS2: if you're too weak to one-shot Mimics, ride your Pal and use their skills, they won't run away.
Haha! It's not so bad really. It's a nice item to save you time to rank up a pal from 3 to 4. Eventualy, you'll have so much coins, you wouldn't know what to do with it. You might as well sometimes.
As for the Katress build, it all of course, depends on you. If you want to raise it as one of your combat mains, then do the combat build that you prefer. But you're gonna have to consider that the Katress will not attack the Mimog, and you can't ride or command it to make it attack. So you're going to have to do the wall method to get the extra drops. Always bring with you at least 40 wood. hehe.
If you're just using the Katress for the extra drops exclusively and not really planning on letting it fight, then maybe those passives that buff you would be the better choice (Vanguard, Stronghold Strategist, etc). Noble + Fine Furs might even be good if you have a habit of trading with merchants. An Artisan + Work Slave might even be good if you do the crafting yourself, you can let it help you.
