Waiting For Eggs to Pop, Started Reading - Lore and Theories
Bored out of my wits trying to do something in the game that requires a lot of breeding (a lot lot) got me to finally reading everything. Me writing this is also part of my cope, so forgive me here. I'm going mad.

For those who have read this far into my post, (thank you) hereunder are the sources I looked into:

- The Paldeck entries. I'm at 163 encountered and registered which I think is not everything yet.
- The full journal and diaries.
- The survival guide
- NPCs of Small Settlement, Fisherman's Point, and Duneshelter

Here are some of my general thoughts on everything I've looked into:

- At the very first time I've played this game, I thought that the castaway is a different person and I am reading his journey. Turns out, the castaway is the player. (me) Early in the journal, he mentions finding the paldeck and he starts using it to take pictures and writing a journal on it. This is exactly what happens to you at the beginning and it makes sense (for me at least) to see it this way as I move on. "Finding" entries is just a game mechanic, but its basically just you writing about your journey.

- The Paldeck, however, is not the player writing about his observations on pals. As stated on the journal, the paldeck updates by itself as the player starts encountering and catching pals. A lot of the things I read are useless when it comes to contributing to lore or theories save for several pals which is mostly the legendaries. (of course it has to be them)

- The diary entries are pretty fun overall. It really did flesh out the tower bosses.

- The info from village NPCs are not really deep lore. It's mostly just fluff to make what you do and encounter in the game make sense in the world in-game. Which is basically lore, yes. But what I'm saying is that its more like things that you can find out by yourself by just playing the game and not really something that adds/expands to things if that makes sense. Except maybe for that one NPC who talks about the fire cult in the volcano region which was pretty cool.

Theory Time

We are inside a Pal

The castaway (the player) went to a certain location because of an island that is not on the map. He goes to the location, gets shipwrecked, and wakes up in a strange land with weird creatures which basically is the start of our adventure.

In the journal, the castaway claims he was attacked as he was trying to get away from the fog that is getting more and more thick, and then wakes up in the island afterwards. I believe that the fog itself is a pal and it ate him.

The island is not in the map because it's not an island. It's a pal.

A Virus On The Loose

Everything inside this (theoretical) pal runs from this primordial energy, Paldium. All the rules in this "world" is governed by this. The islands, the pals, the technology, everything. And apparently, the castaway who also now has assimilated its properties. But the problem now is, at least to the pal that ate the castaway, the player has retained his free will.

The "body" recognizes the castaway as an outsider, and it's immune system activates. But the player is able to fight back in an unexpected way, he is able to control the primordial energy effectively and making it's own system fight against itself. An auto-immune disease.

The funny thing about this is that, if you think about it, like any other virus, the castaway is not really there with a malicious intent. We are just trying to survive. The player gained the upper hand by coming across and learned to make pal spheres and being able to use it. But how did the pal sphere came to be? Why does it exist in this world?

The Humans of the Island and the Towers

There are humans in the islands. They have their own sense of self, memories and everything that makes them a human it seems. But 'I THINK' they have their sentience because they NEED to be as part of the whole system of the pal and not really because they naturally do like the human player. This is why the castaway CAN catch them and they immediately just trust you like the pals you catch. On that note, you can't catch the resurrected man cause he is technically just like the castaway.

So far, there are 6 major organizations of these humans. And except for the group in Sakurajima who have been in their island ever since, each group seems to be drawn to the tower at one point in time for seemingly no reason. This is backed by NPCs in the villages who would say that a certain group went to the tower one day and just stayed there. They created the towers, but notice that they built it with an almost identical design. All they know is that they have to guard it. These towers though have existed way before the player arrived it seems and from what I've read, I have this theory:

The Man Who Went Outside The Islands

In the tower boss diaries, there is a mention of a peculiar man who I believe to be just one person. This is what we have in writing:

- Saya mentions of a man she once spent time with who tells her that the moon of the world is weird. She says that he claims that it feels like time does not really move cause the moon is always full. He teaches her the different phases of the moon.
- Zoe talks about her father who is the boss of the Rayne syndicate who mysteriously disappeared. The rest of the syndicate just declares her the new boss without any resistance which in itself is weird.
- Lily mentions a brave man who she hears attempted to sail out the islands.
- Victor don't know where his assistant went. His name is Alex.

I believe this man did not plan, prepare, and venture out into the unknown horizon to find out what the outside world is. I think he merely went out the way he came in. He was an outsider. The first virus. The reason why the pal had to compel its humans to gather at certain points for them to guard. Why? That part I don't know unfortunately. He may also have been the one to develop the pal spheres too maybe and with that, the original owner of the paldeck. Why leave? Why put a message in the paldeck to head for the tree and that towers are the keys? I don't know. But leaving a paldeck at the place where you wake up sure is a thing. Does the castaway maybe know the Outsider? If anything, the Xeno pals paldeck entries mention that they are receiving communication from somewhere but they forget about it cause they feed on information. Both meteorite and supply drops come from outside from the sky. Can we maybe connect this to the outsider?

And with that, that's all I got with from the insanity in my head from all the breeding I have to do. (still breeding as I type) For those who have reached this far, thank you. Share your thoughts on your own take if its different from mine so I have something to read while I'm doing my experiment.

To close, I would like to share some bits that did not really connect well with my theory but are still very interesting.

- Marcus is ..... he's that kind of guy, huh? If anything though, the illegal white stuff that he sells is from the scales of a cinnamoth. It makes you happy.
- Three legendary pals talk about a calamity: Jetragon, Frostallion, and Frostallion Noct. With the current theme of my post of "the thingy is a pal", The Calamity is a pal. One that was sealed by the Frostallions and will be obliterated by the Jetragon on its return. Being sealed by the horses might mean it's weak to them, so maybe it's a Dragon/Neutral type. (with neutral being light) As for why the Jetragon is destined to fight it, I don't know. Maybe its slow. LoL.
- Axel just vibing. The dude doesn't give a fuack.
- if you check the map of the starting island, it looks like a monster swallowing a fish.
- Saya's final entry is about the castaway.... and it says a lot. (a lot lot)

You can set the incubate timer to 1 and they will open up as soon as you put them in.

It already is. I need the pals to eat those cakes a little faster. My room also seemed to have magically cleaned itself.
