Gunpowder for future weapons?
Once we get to a more future-age stage of weapons (such as kinetic guns), will we still be using gunpowder? If not, then that reduces the amount of usage wood gets.

True, but the Gatling Gun still does.

Y'know, this might seem out of left field... but I wish they'd given us a Quartz mine instead of a Sulphur mine in the Sakurajima update. Sulphur is only used for Gunpowder. Nothing else. And between the bullets dropping from killing human enemies and all the gunpowder we get from murdering those Tocopoco bird thingies by the hundreds (why are there so many?), I've never once had to craft gunpowder myself. Not even once. I've never used Sulphur for anything.

In the very late game, yeah it kind of will. But, it depends on how you play. If you craft your own ammo, you're always going to need it. I can't imagine someone running around with just the future tech and no proper guns at all. That doesn't seem like a feasible option to me. Just like I can't imagine someone using the AK as their primary weapon. Be they crafting the ammo or buying it, either way, that would be so exspensive to use as your primary weapon. I could like afford it if I wanted to, but I really don't. Plus, I find the AK takes the challange out of every fight except with like Frostallion and Jetragon, I suppose also with Paldius & Necormus as well. But outside of that, the AK is almost like a I WIN cheat code on pretty much every other mob in the game.

I want artillery cannons. Like how Fallout 4 does it, make in my base and shoot motors on people with smoke signals.

I think you'll find you'll need to either spend loads of money on ammo or loads of effort crafting it if/when attempting to take on the oil rig. Trust me. A sword won't CUT it there (See what I did there? SWORD won't CUT it? hehehe). You'll need ammo in the thousands to take on all the high level sponges (I mean, thugs) that you'll find there. :)

Even with lasers and whatnot, I imagine the rocket launcher will still be relevant. Explosions are explosions, after all.

And why didn't the Missile and Grenade Launchers make the Rocket Launcher obsolete?

The Rocket Launcher still has a far, far greater attack than either of those two. Also, the original post was asking if gunpowder was obsolete, but the grenade launcher at least requires gunpowder for its ammo, though the missile launcher uses crude oil instead. :)
