I didn't have a problem with the lasers I thought it was the coolest part.
I never bothered with elemental counter as it was pretty much always faster for me to turn the minigun and mow the target down, or if Bellanoir's active is up which would one tap anything.
The Purple chest aren't that great when you can just fly around the overworld on Jetragon and do the same thing but faster.
But I see your points I just don't see it as highly as you do, but if you had fun that's great to each their own.
I don't care that I found a way to get past them, they're too much of a pain in the ass, and shutting them down is hard enough when you've got a hailstorm of bullets flying toward you.
I read that the lasers were permanently deactivated once you destroyed them. If this were the case then it would be a drastic improvement.
Ranting about lasers aside, I actually found that it was quite fun to play in a more strategic manner, and I do actually enjoy being in a spot that requires more complex problem solving than usual. (so no, tampering with difficulty settings won't really improve the experience, but rather eliminate one of the strongest selling points for me)
Come to think of it, it's quite amusing in that this is the first time I've seen Rayne Syndicate clowns using their brains.
The bosses/boss pals/arena areas respawn as every time i've gone through one and beat it it tells you that you've beaten the boss for the first time meaning that you can repeat them.
Oil rig feels a bit too easy to me, even without using Pals since their pathing gets all screwwy there so I don't bother using them.
Any tips?
They target flying pals specifically.
They also cant shoot very high
Fly above them (about the height of the tall tower in the middle , then glide down when you run out of stamina.
Destroy a few lasers when you land, mount and fly straight up again, glide down onto more lasers and eventually disable them all
Now you can fly in peace
Thanks for that tip.
I actually tried it again last night using a Jourmantide, and you're right, no lasers.
I do have to contend with the bazillion Lv 55 bad guys on the rig that all come gunning for me... but at least I can actually reliably get on the rig now.
(I'm only Lv 46, and only just recently got basic Pal Armor, so it's not a big surprise I got slaughtered)
Is there a reason to bother with stealth with the oil rig?
As soon as I shot one bad guy facing away from me, the alarms went off and all heck broke loose.
The thought keeps nagging that I should have snuck past him, but Palworld never struck me as the kind of game that allows stealth.
All this trouble to try and get some Ancient Cores... I wonder if I'd have been better off trying my hand at a basic Bellanoir? I've heard it's so insanely powerful that even high-level players struggle with the basic one, and have been too nervous to try (plus, few of my Pals outside the party are leveled up enough to fight).
Honorable mention, thank you for the tip as well.
I did always wonder if it was possible to fly really high over the rig. But I doubt my Ragnahawk has the stamina needed to pull that off. Maybe...
I'd love to tell you all my thoughts/experience on the oil rig.
Context: I'm playing the game on hard. Level 51. The game played this way is a masterpiece until you hit level 50. Great progression all the way until then. There simply needs to be more variety of pals for more exp.
Experience: To me, the mystery of the oil rig is the end game. I have 3,000 hours in Ark and Rust each and I love the concept of an Oil Rig just like in Rust. The beam lasers gunning me down at level 40 etc gave me a good goal to strive towards.
I get to level 51 and I think I'm ready to give it another shot. I jump on my water mount and head over. Hard is 4x damage to the player so I need to go stealth. I have 200 in stamina and start climbing the legs of tge rig like mission impossible. I use my gale claw to glide from support beam to support beam.
I have a 4 star Alpha Bellanoir that has ferocity, muscle head, and serenity. That's 60% extra attack. Huge eggs on hard take 2 hours each so it took about a week and a half to make her. She's going to be my tactical goddess for taking these gunners out 1 by 1.
I decide to fly all the way to the other side of the rig to try a different path then the stairs at the front. I notice some pipes in the middle of the rig at the far end I can climb up. I mission impossible up them and use my bellanoir to take a few guys out one at a time.
I get overwhelmed and bail out flying to the side of the rig and just make it to climb over the railing. (About an hour has passed already) I see some containers I can get behind and reload. I feel like James bond jr. Bellanoir is almost dead and I'm at low health. I kill a few more guys and see a chest right below me in the containers. It's purple.
I dodge roll into it hoping I can get a nice good legendary schematic to bring back to my base to help me push further through next time. I grab it and fly off the edge with bullets zipping by me.
So far the experience is a 10/10.
Then, it all goes bad.
Thoughts: it's a regular purple chest like the rest of the game. I realize at this point that the rig is probably full of meaningless chests with no real value at all.
So I lower all settings to make me godly and go check the rig. I was right. All purple terrible chests. The turrets you can't even shoot. You just hold a button on them. There's one yellow chest I found with 5 of those ancient cores in them. Wow I can make ability glasses finally that I should have been able to make at level 1.....
Whoever the developers were that designed this oil rig and whoever the developers were that accepted, and let it be published should read this. The rewards are an absolute terrible dissapointment.
