PSA about breeding IVs
Maybe everyone already knows, but I didn't. This is in case anyone else is like me and just kinda dumb.

After breeding literally hundreds of eggs to get a flawless IV pal, I realized something as I got super close. Its *EXTREMELY* unlikely your IVs will go up the higher your IVs are. What winds up happening is your parents IVs are precisely what's passed down. So I was winding up with a bunch that were 100/99/92 and they were all that.

Don't make the mistake of repeatedly breeding those parents. you want something with a flawless stat, regardless of whatever the others are, and breed it until you get an offspring with both stats flawless (regardless of whatever the third stat is) then you need to breed that with another one with the third missing flawless stat.

If you keep just "trying to breed up", you'll wind up with something like I did, but it won't ever exceed the parents stats save that I get that literally 1% chance their stat goes up.

TL;DR: Don't breed up for IVs, just get something with a flawless stat from the start and breed until you pass on the flawless stats onto one child, then breed that child with whatever is the missing flawless stat until you get your flawless IVs

By "breeding IVs" do you mean pal level? I thought all eggs hatched lvl 1 pals. Do they gain the levels of the parents?

While we're on the topic, is there a way to tell what the IVs are without leveling and checking the values? I haven't quite gotten to the madness of trying to breed perfect IVs, but I know I'll get there eventually.

No, I mean IVs. The same Pals aren't equal, some will have a higher attack stat or defense stat or health, despite being the same level. That's because of something called Internal Values (or IVs). It determines the bonus growth you get to the relevant stat, going up to a 30% increase at 100.

so if I have a pal with an IV of 10 in health, its getting 10% of the 30% full bonus it COULD have if it had 100.

To be honest, this is 100% unnecessary and unless this is something you're really into about min/maxing you should probably forget this whole thing exists :P It's a very long and annoying process to get max IVs (its worse than getting perfect passive skills...and then after I get my perfect IV pal, I need to GET the passives on it...so yeah.)

There is a mod you can get that just tells you what the IVs are without having to use a calculator. Calculators are great, but you'd have to level anything at least to 30 before the calculator gets within the "known" range

Just breed exclusively using luckies then. As they have IVs set to the max from what I understand.

That's 100% false. They are the same as Alphas. They have a bit of a bonus but their IVs can tank as much as anything else. You can have basics stronger than alpha/lucky, the alpha/lucky just have a better chance of being stronger.

edit: in fact when you organize your box by "alpha" the game itself doesn't distinguish between lucky and alpha, they are the same group as far as that setting goes in the game. I've had lucky pals with just stupidly bad IVs.

why would you care about the pal "ivs" in the first place? I thought end game was stacking attack with gobfins or something. Relevant for future pvp?

Because I want to, that's really it. I want to make the most beastly flamebelle that I can

edit: I have 0 interest in PvP. Even if I make really over powered teams in terms of stats, I wouldn't bother with it. Just making them stronger is fun enough for me

They're just breeding max stat pals. Nothing else. Let them have their fun.

Well, it's just what I heard. And looking into it. I am wrong, but not entirely. They seem to have one IV stat maxed out or at a high level? Just not all 3.

That's wrong. Wherever you're getting that "they have 1 flawless IV" is just plain bad info. I am using a mod that lets me see the actual IVs, I have several lucky pals that don't even break 75 in any stat

pretty sure the IV system is the average of the parents rounded up so yeah, you can never get higher. I would avoid minmaxing unless you want to do it for funsies. I wouldn't be surprised if they add functions later on down the line to make the process easier, like rare fruits to increase IVs
Mackenzie Feb 20, 2024 @ 1:14pm
I see the IV values as well and they can go higher or lower than the parents at random.

From thousands of cakes of testing and breeding multiple perfect IV Pal teams for various loadouts and playstyles for many players now - from my experience it seems around a 33% chance to inherit the IV from Ma, 33% from Pa and 33% to roll the IV randomly from 0 - 100 just like the game does when spawning a new wild Pal into the world. The figurative dice are rolled once per IV (Health, Attack, Defense).

Furthermore, wild Pals spawn with 4 randomized IVs; Health ,Attack (Ranged), Attack (Melee) and Defense. For any and all bred Pals (unlike wild Pals), they will always have the same Ranged and Melee IVs.

I've gotten a 100 health IV from 16 IV + 9 IV jetragon parents and I've gotten 0 health IV from 100 IV + 100 IV jetragon parents.
