Looking to buy - should I?
Hey! i seen some gameplay and footage of the game and it looks pretty awesome. Id mostly be interested in collecting creatures and building little places for them as well as probably roleplaying with some people on a private server. are these enjoyable things to do in the game? i also realize the game is still being developed and so many more things will come too :) i just wanted some input from people who play the game

it is fun but it has a long way to go so you mite want to hold off on buying it till a few updates so you do not run out of things to do

I think I'm finally starting to wind down to a point where I'm about ready to put PalWorld on the back burner until some more/new content comes out.

BUT that also took me ~200hrs to reach this point. As unfinished as the game is, there is still a lot of things to do. Personally I consider that money well spent with high hopes for the future of the game, tho time will tell on that end.

If it's something you think you'd enjoy, I'd say might as well but if you're on the fence there isn't really any major downside to waiting a bit.

Well, I had this on my wishlist for a while now. I waited on EA release a few days to see what everyone else said. It looked like a go so I got it... The wife and I cant put it down! Its a little awkward at first to get used to, but after that, its just been pure fun and a joy for us.

However, understand its still in EA. You will def have some issues with a some bugs, weird behaviors from PALs and some glitches here and there. Its not a game breaker though, but you can tell the game needs some attention to respect with bugs, glitches, etc. Content is pretty solid and building can be a little awkward with some bugs that cause you to build stairs and detailed things like a puzzle before you get them to actually work. etc, etc. Im making it worse than it probably is as we have had a few issues but its not been game breaking thus far. But, this is what EA is for, to fix, tweak, squash bugs/glitches, add new content, QOLs and more....

Overall, the wife and I are having a hard time putting this down. Theres just so much to do that we havent ran into anything boring yet. If you do buy and want to refund it in 2 hrs, you can, but you need like 5+ hrs and more to really get into what it has to offer, cause there is a lot!

We are not fanboys, white knights, haters, etc...just two regular people who work for a living and love to play good games on the weekends. For us, Im not sure it gets much better than this atm! We havent went back to a few of our fave sim games cause this one is just to good to not play!

I wish you the best and I can honestly say that if you can overlook the stuff that goes with EA, you are going to have a great time playing this! Very addictive!

Yes, probably. You have to make that decision for yourself though. I got my money's worth out of it, i've played now for ~230 hours solo. I'm waiting for more content.

Edit: the post below reminded me to recommend using custom world settings to play the game. The balance for "normal" seems to be geared towards a group of players, so don't be discouraged to try custom settings.

I'm enjoying it and I've put in a little over 60 hours right now. I'd suggest if you buy it you *don't* play on hard mode. It is fun enough but it generally just makes things take longer to do. Normal is what you want. You can always adjust settings later if there is something you dislike.

Love the gameplay. Currently running around the island looking for an alpha pengullet to stuff into my rocket launcher.
Amalek Feb 19, 2024 @ 3:21pm
For the cost, absolutely. It's a ton of fun, and if you aren't big on challenges the game can be adjusted in many ways to make things easier (ie, not needing to grind to make firearms).
The amount of hate on a very positive reviewed game should be indicative that there is a smear campaign artificially turfed by the people who enjoy recreational outrage.
For an early access release there are small problems but I've no doubt they'll be corrected in under 75 days.
wolfie' Feb 19, 2024 @ 3:23pm
nope!

come back in the next 4-6 months or a year, you'll either get significantly more mileage out of it, or find that it still may not be worth investing in at that point.

the longevity of the game is up in the air atm and i wouldn't recommend buying it unless you have a social group that won't quickly diminish to support playing it over a longer term.

from what you're expecting, I'd say, yeah. the game is great for that.
I'm still having fun with the game. They are bugs but none of them deters my enjoyment of the game.

my only complaint, really is that the game is too grindy for a single player game at normal settings. Beating the last three bosses needs you to rack in at least 100+ hour, unless you customize/lowered the difficulty.

I do recommend you to buy this game now rather than waiting for the game to drop its price.. because first of all, the game is relatively cheap and being the success that it is, I don't think the game publisher will reduce the price anytime soon.

better ride the hype train late than never =)
Ruke (Soreasan) Feb 19, 2024 @ 3:25pm
Yeah it's kinda fun but it's your choice.

I feel like it's very much worth it as a 10-25$ steam game picking up. So if you're not urgent you can decide if you want to play on sale or wait for later. It'll probably be able to have more updates too if developed or things.

As far as roleplaying.. I don't know if i'd do it here? Like even ingame i think roleplay hot spots usually end up on socials like Discord / maybe some assorted online game spots.

This is a game with optional slavery and guns or optional purring pals in hot tubs happily working. I mean.. i have unlocked the production lines and they kick in lvl 40-50. But you can still just charge them up for a minute, use normally, and skip the labor part fine with a crafting Anubis Lucario.

You could probably still engage with the fandom while it's hot without owning the game or just use like the original routes of like pictures with trusted friends on discords.

I don't like Wow but i remember it had a semi active roleplaying scene several years ago that might have died now. But if you have a computer to play Palworld, You probably have a gpu able to run text ai if you want, (even a cpu only works with modern text advancements)

Like, there's Faraday, a really lightweight ai app and there's a model named Kunochi 7B right now on it. I like it like 7x better than chai and while i also had fun doing things for years and still with my best buddies. I've kinda got jaded by some of the experiences being well.. 7 hrs to meet someone using slurs on the internet. While Kunochi is actually a surprisingly good model for the size.

It's 7b so if you have a computer that can run palworld, it might likely run as well as long as it's over the rtx 2000 series(?)

Even if you don't, it's a small model trained super well so it outperforms a lot of 200-300$ year stuff. But it's still going to be a robot, playing with friends is still going to be fun, or in person dming / adventure making.

As far as gameplay wise goes. Palworld at 30$ isn't unfun either, i'd say maybe watch a streamer if you want and think if you'd be interested. I'd say it's like 50-100 hrs of minecraft meets Pokemon meets unreal store assets.

It's a fun gameplay loop, it's minecraft enjoyable, even if you expect to hate it, a lot of mounts are like Guild war 2 mounts in that they each have ridable special abilities and can be fought on. But they each mostly either walk/run (Chillet, Huskyroc), or fly and use 3 moves.

I wouldn't say it's life changing to have or without. But it's still a little bit of mindlessly fun. Think of Minecraft/Farmville/ Pokemon/Harvest moon. 30$? Not sure, but 10-20$ would be a great sale price for sure, and you could wishlist it and see if it goes on sale later. (Like 30$ -> 10-20$), or buy now and play now while the iron's hot, or wait to see if the hype lives up.

It does have hacker problems rn in public servers rn though local singleplayer is fine. And while there are Pirates, it's still up to people whether or not they want to support the games they like in the end.

As even games you like can go under if nobody supports them. (Though Palworld has probably seen record breaking revenue that they can hopefully use to develop, hopefully like a future minecraft, and not a ['take the money and ran'] game)

Tl;dr try
o Up to you! By steam, you can buy it while it's hot or try your luck waiting to see if it goes on sale later / 0.3-4(?) years for 10-25$

o I think it'd be a good value at 10-25$, 30$ is a lil for steam, but it still sold well and was at least 10-15%(?) off at release.

o Can still engage in the fandom, even if you don't own the game if you wanted, chasing it while it's hot if wanted.
Chukkzy Feb 19, 2024 @ 3:27pm
Depends, do you enjoy messing with something that still grows like the way Minecraft was when it came out initially? Go for it.

If you do not enjoy kinks (sometimes really notable ones), a lot of things that may or may not change in the future and walled off areas (So far I have encountered one that is said to become important in an undisclosed future update, then wait a few months and see how people speak of it then.
Odin Feb 19, 2024 @ 3:32pm
Don't buy it. I just uninstalled it and asked for a refund. Too many hacker. They blow your base up, kill you, change your name, take over your guild. The random hackers make this game unplayable atm.
Ruke (Soreasan) Feb 19, 2024 @ 3:37pm
Hackers are kinda a definite public server problem. But single player is fine.

Kinda like how Early Gmod apparently had a major early hacking problem, and so does ow2/valorant at times. (Their matchmaking still sucks !@#!# for the game size. And they made it worse lmao).

But i mean. Really there's no absolute answer. If you value being around and spending 30-80$ more to have a game on it's hyped first month, go for it.

If you're in no rush, and don't mind waiting to see if it goes on sale, this game feels a great/solid pick for 10-25$.

You're after the best games, not the most cheapest games. If budget is a concern, Epic games has weekly free games and usually about 1-4x good ones a year. I loved and bought dishonored 1 and 2. Then Epic released me a HD version of Dishonored 1 + Styx of shadows.

I was mad at first about 'paying' twice for it, then i realized although i spent 20$. I got to enjoy dishonored 1 as a kid with more free time, and go back to it as a adult to play 2 with a computer that could. I don't regret it, i used to be super frugal to the point i'd be too cheap to even drink strength potions in video games like runescape lol.

But sometimes time is money, sometimes time saves money. It really depends what you want and it can actually be fun optimizing it for a game or vice aversa. But there's no one size fits all, just a wide menu of options with each person choosing what sounds best to them.

I'd say it's worth the buy, the game does have its fair share of bugs and glitches so as long as you're willing to overlook that and keep in mind it currently is early access then you should do fine. I too spend a lot of time just building and spending time with my Pals, just be sure you turn off raids in the world settings if you're building more for aesthetics over protection. There is a hacker problem on the public servers but if you're playing on a private server with friends that shouldn't be a problem. As for roleplaying I suppose you could with friends, the game really doesn't have a real story that's in your face making it a priority, so you and your friends could RP as being shipwrecked and washing ashore some strange island. And now you're trying to survive and start a new life while befriending the strange creatures that inhabit it.

Lorewise from the little I've gathered so far it seems to take place on Earth on some unknown and uncharted island as the log entries you find scattered about seem to draw comparisons to real life animals and the like. I'll keep the rest vague to prevent spoilers but if you just want to play it almost like a Minecraft setting but with creatures to fight and capture you totally can and have fun with it.

EDIT: Something I forgot to add, if you're waiting for a Steam sale to buy it, don't. I wouldn't expect the price to go any lower as time goes on, but go higher. Typically early access games tend to be cheap when they first launch to draw in players and more sales. But after that and especially when they're as successful as Palworld is right now, the price only goes up.

EDIT 2: The devs also support modding (On private servers, co-op, and single player.) so if there's things you don't like about the game, mod it! As time goes on there will probably be new and improved mods to make the game closer to the way you want. Like for example I'm using a mod right now that turns the "shinies" into a new color variant instead of just being bigger versions of their non-shiny counterparts.

Yes.

For the price it has at least that many hours, more in coop, of content. Even though its early access it is pretty fleshed out. Plus there's more to come.
Ruke (Soreasan) Feb 19, 2024 @ 4:06pm
it's fair to note even for palworld, there are two kinda player chosen playstyles.

1. The cuddlemuncher
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95ZheTwE3x4

o Give all pals comfortable homes
o When unlocking the optional slavery /hard work stand, never use it.

2. The Slavemaster
o Same path as above, but when unlocking the hard work monitor, choose to use it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL-7ZfiR9eQ

https://youtu.be/sRorATypNn8?si=3Mq1bWRUf4_MRPxo&t=20

(Pals work 30-50% harder, but get injured much faster and are sad. Since most valuable resources are rare, this mostly means you might get a lot more mats. But the more.. unimportant ones. Like Stone and wood vs Ores.

Medicines also tend to use uncommon/er resources. Like bones and rare herbs. A merchant can sell it cheaply. But slavery can also backfire by making you spend as much time healing your mons as just letting them work happily. )

I'd say the gameplay loop. Minecraft fun.
o Game: It's Unreal engine store assets meet surprisingly fun cute animations meet optional slavery meet optional cuteness meet world exploration meets store asset guns and vending machine.

Rp potential?
o Uh. Im not sure honestly about rp with the hacking, but i think you could at least build (fortnite level) basic block houses. Not as good as minecraft but you can have flat roofs. (Diagonal are buggy atm but likely to be fixed). water fountains, beds, homes, pal spas, etc.

You could probably build bases or pretend to be the trainer fine. The pokemon themselves are prone to running off so i wouldn't know about posable. But there are buildable furniture spots.

Mostly, there can be something for everyone or a option for everyone. But life's your menu. And some of the menu can be highly questionable! But one person's "YIKES" can be another's Delight, a cup of tea for everyone!(?)
