I've read that you can reroll their inventory if you put them into the Palbox and spawn then again, but unless you want to buy a lot of particular Pals that will only be available from one that's not near a fast-travel point (like, there's a level 40 Black Marketeer by Duneshelter, ut maybe the level 50 one elsewhere has a better table? Eh), it doesn't seem particularly useful... unless maybe you're on a MP server and other players keep killing the merchants as they respawn? Hm.
Don't give them skills, they don't seem to be able to use them and, for me, they just bug out and don't do anything at all once you do.
I gave a human (minigun guy) I caught in the desert the implode skill and he just refuses to do anything now, it's like he still has some will of his own after being captured... So I've turned him into steaks instead.
I haven't bothered to boost their stats with the statue, not sure what really gets boosted at level 4 cause they're pretty useless in the first place.
