Is it wise to mod yet?
I don't want to mod the ♥♥♥♥ out of it, i just want to be able to toggle my lantern. That is the ONLY mod i want because it is blinding and negatively effecting my gameplay experience more than i expected. But with the game updates coming so frequently i fear modding my game would make it unstable somehow. I have modded finished games for years but never early access. Couldn't find answers online, does anyone know from experience what to expect or have any advice if i do mod it?

You bet! Be aware that UE4SS IS going to break on the next update, it does every time. But that'll be months from now, and all you'll have to do is delete 3 UE4SS files and let Vortex reinstall them. It won't brick anything, it just won't let you launch until you reinstall it.

ONE MORE QUESTION
https://www.nexusmods.com/palworld/mods/699
i want to install this and was wondering if just using the vortex would work? i don't want to extract ue4ss directly into the game folder and have to delete and reinstall it that way which would become necessary in every update if i follow the install instructions which the OK mod says to do. i installed the OK pal mod and the only thing that changed is now my lucky pals are normal sized
Unfortunately, you don't have a choice with UE4SS, it has to be directly next to the .exe, as it's a framework.

However, Vortex installs it automatically, you don't have to worry about installing anything manually if you use Vortex.

Updates happen months apart and it's a simple process to delete the files, and Vortex will automatically reinstall it when it sees they're gone.

I have a post showing how to do so: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1623730/discussions/0/4353366080399837782/

Once the Summer update hits and you're suddenly unable to launch your game, all you have to do is navigate here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Palworld\Pal\Binaries\Win64
and delete the 3 UE4SS files in there. That's it. Vortex will handle the rest.

To answer your question, yes, Vortex can handle every mod Palworld has. UE4SS isn't required for One of a Kind either. One of a Kind is technically just a framework. Any mod with "OK" in the title will add more skins to it, usually for specific Pals, or lucky Pals. Here's the one for Lamballs that's shown on the OK page:
https://www.nexusmods.com/palworld/mods/537

You can click on "Requirements" in the Nexus page, and that will show any dependencies that mod has, or any mods that depend on the mod you're viewing. You can use that to see some (but not all) of the packs people have released to feed into One of a Kind. (usually just colorations)

It's not a major hassle as far as I know. I have 3 mods but they're minor. If they don't work just revert it by removing the mods folder. But it works so far for me.

Palworld was built with pretty good modding support from launch. It's remarkably stable--as games go--upon updates; usually the only mods that break are the ones related directly to code that was changed in the update, with only a few exceptions.

Here's the mod you're looking for: https://www.nexusmods.com/palworld/mods/603

If you use Vortex mod manager (The Nexus Mods official mod manager) for any other games, it'll work for Palworld too, installs UE4SS for you (the framework mod required by this mod and many others), and can download the mod itself directly from the site and install it in the game without ever opening the file explorer. I'd recommend using Vortex; it works for hundreds of games, but there's manual installation instructions too.

If you want an example of what modding can do for Palworld, I'd recommend checking out One of a Kind: https://www.nexusmods.com/palworld/mods/524

Most of the modding scene at the moment is skin mods, and One of a Kind is the cream of the crop; allowing unique skins for each and every passive. Gameplay mods are more rare, though they exist.

Well, it's an early access game, with several updates on the horizon. Mods are perfectly fine as long as you're willing to throw the dice. They could work fine moving forward, they might need to be re-applied with new revisions, and they might completely irreversibly wreck your save. Use at your own risk.

what if, using vortex mod manager, i uninstall them before playing on my original save and only install them for a modded save?

There are profiles built into Vortex that allow you to have a vanilla setup and a modded setup simultaneously. Vortex doesn't actually copy any mods into the game's directory (except UE4SS, the framework); it keep all your mods and configs and such in it's own staging folder.

Also, I've not yet come across a single instance of a bricked or corrupted save in my 450 hours, most of which were modded. Any issues I've heard about happening were all recoverable from.

It wouldn't even be necessary in your case though, most mods are perfectly safe to start or stop using mid-save, the game handles it all pretty well.

However, backups are never a bad idea. Your saves, settings, etc are all kept here:
%appdata%/Local/Pal/Saved

Could i add my lantern and that unique pals mod you showed me to my level 45 save or do you recommend not doing that? Also fine with just the lantern

Yep! You'd be safe to do both of them. If you'd like the peace of mind, you can backup your saves; refer to my previous comment for where to find them.

Is it the same place i go to rollback my saves by copying old backups back into the same folder on a separate tab and override the new autosaves?

Do i need to do anything to it or it's just there if i need it?

Presumably, but I've never had to do it myself so I can't say for sure. I'd see no reason why that wouldn't work on singleplayer. But that's a bridge you can cross when you come to it; as long as you have the saves backed up, you can afford to trial and error as much as you need.

That's JUST where your saves are located. You have to copy that folder and paste it anywhere else and then it's backed up.

Again, this isn't necessary at all, definitely not for the mods you're choosing to use. This is more a safeguard when using a lot of mods like I do.

Thank you so much! You have been so helpful. The internet answers my questions with anything that has pal in the tags rather than the specific thing I'm asking and i am greatful to people in the steam community that are knowledgeable about these things and ready to help out so quickly.
