The ore plots are nice but...
I wish the upgrade one was just better then have mining spots, I built this base with like 8 or 9 ore spots but I get more ore faster from just building a plot, feels bad putting in the effort than having it surpassed by a single building.

Edit: To be clear I don't want the plots nerfs if anything buffing the ore nodes would be preferable.

Pretty sure the intent behind the ore plots is to smooth out late game metal generation. Really intended either for people who just want fat stacks of metal ore ready at all times, or people who don't want to build bases just for ores. I personally have a mining base that is handling my need at the moment, but I'm looking for a base with lots of col/sulfur so I can place a plot there to have ease of ammunition generation.

You need to keep something in mind:

Ore mine came later than release so there was no other way to farm ores than building a base for it.
Now it frees up a base you can use for something else.

What I need you to understand is that I'm aware of that and in fact am saying I wish it didn't feel like I wasted my time making this base, now the special ore base has no use and this base I worked on can be ripped down and I would be better off if I tore down my work and put it somewere else. This feels bad as a player.
so, why not just build that plot at the ore base? if the workers manage to clear it all out it keeps them producing. its what i did and now i'm contemplating both moving my base and building it out of metal due to the amount of ore im getting and processing.

Simple solution for a simple problem. Build an Ore plot there at the ore base and when they stop working on the rocks, they'll continue on the ore plots until they respawn.
Plus theres 2 tiers of ore plots too. Instead of complaining that you made a base for ores and feel undermined, why not feel grateful they gave your pals something to do while waiting for the rocks to respawn?
If it ain't broke then why fix it? Unless you don't like the spot of course, the ore plots mean you can either increase the number of nodes like others have suggested, or build over the natural ones without losing anything if you need more space.

Also while they may seem redundant it helps decentralize building. If you look at guides they all generally recommend the same handful of spots with lots of nodes. Those spots are especially primo locations for multiplayer. With the plots you aren't ♥♥♥♥ out of luck if all the good spots are taken.

Here's an outside the box solution for you; why not leave your ore mining to the nodes inside your base, and use one of these three mods (and ONLY one) to change the ore pit to either coal, sulfur, or quartz, respectively?

i get the feeling we may see pits for those other materials later as well from the developers. but until then if you want a singular mining base that does the bulk of everything, just need to find a good coal and sulphur base and plop an ore pit in there.

i havn't found myself needing quartz to the point i need a constant supply though. sulphur for sure though.

MAYBE for coal, down the line. Definitely not for quartz or sulfur. Those are kinda the primary practical draws for building bases in the volcano/desert/icy mountain biomes.

true. though quartz and sulfur are so light compared to ore, honestly i'll just grab an astegon and pound out all the areas rich in those materials till im near full then head back. and while i do that, i keep an eye out for lucky pals.

just how i go about it. though since im looking to relocate my main base, once that is done i'll probably relocate my mining base as well to a more sulfur rich area. finding i need it more and more.

You'll need sulfur from early-game to end-game for bullets, and quartz for end-game stuff, but you'll never need a lot of either of them. The sulfur and coal you find in dungeons is usually more than enough to keep you going all game, especially since dungeons also give you unique giant paldium deposits... but having sulfur automatically collect in a chest in one of your bases is super helpful for keeping up a constant supply of ammo.
