Late-game balancing
I really hope the developers are planning on taking some time to work the kinks out of the late-game item balancing because dear GOD some of this stuff is expensive lmao! I spent so much time gathering the resources to make 100 legendary spheres (like 2,000 ore just to give you an idea). And I'll admit, that was not even remotely necessary on my part. I just like grinding so I can craft stuff in bulk and not have to constantly worry if I have enough of something.
However, even at my high level and with only a sliver of health left, it still took me SEVERAL spheres to catch some of the endgame boss pals even though they were at a lower level than me. So I ended up using all 100 spheres in the span of like... an hour... A stack that easily took me 5 hours or more to make.
Ammo for the assault rifle and shotgun have the same problem (the assault rifle especially since it eats through ammo like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Pac-man lmao). In my opinion, it takes WAY too long to gather the resources to craft a reasonable amount of ammo. And in the end, the guns don't do enough damage to make it worth all the time you spent crafting bullets. This also has to do with the fact that a lot of the bosses are purely bullet sponges that have massive health bars instead of unique or interesting mechanics to make the fights more difficult. So instead of having to play better in order to actually beat them in a "fight", you... just end up dumping of 50-90% of your ammunition into a bosses face while they stand perfectly still waiting for their attacks to recharge...
Again, it just doesn't seem worth it considering you have to spend all that time going around collecting ore, coal, sulfur, and wood to make bullets just to realize they compound exponentially so you aren't even able to make that many. And if that wasn't enough, it is COMPLETELY possible to blow through ALL of your ammo in a single fight and not even get the boss down to half health.
Like let me break this down so you see how bad it actually is...

If you went out and gathered 200 sulfer, 400 ore, 400 coal, and 800 wood. That only nets you 200 rounds of AR ammo! That's ten magazines! TEN! And I easily had to blow through at least two-dozen mags fighting Menasting and I only managed to catch him after that by sheer RNG luck!
Bro has four THOUSAND health, and the AR does like 20 damage MAXIMUM damage-per-round. In other words, you BETTER have at least 200 rounds on you or you're gonna run out of ammo mid-fight. And even then, that's only if you're REALLY good at hitting his weak points. So for anyone who doesn't spend 40+ hours a week in aimlab, better bump that up to 400 rounds lmao. And then, IF you haven't run out of ammo, IF you manage to get his health low enough without killing him, IF he doesn't 1-shot you with one of his ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ un-dodgeable attacks, ONLY THEN will you have the chance to catch him. And that's only if the RNG gods smile upon you that day and you don't run out of legendary spheres because even with the HIGHEST SPHERE TIER IN THE GAME still only has a 10% chance to catch him.
And if you think any of the other late-game bosses are any better...
you poor poor thing...

TL;DR
It takes too much time and effort and WAY too many resources to make late-game ammo and spheres and in the end it isn't even worth it because for some reason, even with the highest tier sphere in the game, you still only get like a 10-15% chance to catch some bosses.
It's not game-breaking by any means, but it is really annoying and made me feel like I was kinda bashing my head against a brick wall instead of actually making progress in the game.

I still love the game and the devs though. I just wanted to open the topic for discussion.

You don't use your pals? All of your damage shouldn't be coming from just your gun. You have pals that deal massive amounts of damage. Use em. The catch chances late game I will agree are abysmal, but that's because you don't need to catch anything after you've gotten your legendaries of both sexes. You just breed em after that.
i never considered the cost of making ammo because most of those resources i get from being afk except for sulfur. i prefer buying them by selling boss drops as it doesnt take long to farm those with a jetragon

though i find making legendary spheres extremly annoying, costs a lot, takes a lot and doesnt capture a lot

That's why I make my bases item collecting ones. Be it ore, coal or whatever I need

I just end up with a butt ton of the resource I need then I move my 2nd base to a new spot to farm the new resource I need

Yeah I have like 3 stacks of 9,999 ore, and a 9,999 stack of coal plus another 5k or so. I recently got rid of my lumber pit cuz I had over 50,000 wood. Put the stone pit back in cuz I was getting low (only like 5k left lol, so not that low). But I do play on a server with friends so there's a lot of materials being farmed even when I'm not on. In my single player game, I was basically using my resources as I was getting them. Never had a surplus quite like on a server.

A good player build can one or two shot tower bosses.

1 - We dont know which settings the poster was playing , also, its hard for you guys to simply compare since your settings could be different. I am sure many people who think they are gods in this game, are playing with boosted settings.

2 - I also found weird OP didnt mention fighting alongside his pals and at the same time, didnt seem like OP was playing with attack build....

If you give less rant and more information about your case, build, pals, what you were doing, we could help better.

If you want to rely on your weapons, you should be using a suitable Pal team (e.g. vanguard gobfins plus an elemental mount like Chillet or Ragnahawk) and investing in ATK.

If you want to use weapons that are less resource-intensive:

* the pump-action shotgun does a lot of damage for the resource cost, if you get close (because the listed damage is per pellet, and it fires something like 8)

* a legendary handgun outdamages a legendary assault rifle on a per-bullet base, and uses cheaper ammo; but it does have a lower rate of fire, of course

* elemental DOTs like that from the poison crossbow scale with enemy health

But the resource-cheap way of fighting is to use Pals that have been chosen and bred for combat power. It takes a lot of time and resources to breed a max-condensed Pal, but once you have one, it's cheap to use.

By the time you have legendary spheres and are using them, hopefully you have maxed out capture power, and you can also come in swinging with the stun baton since the stunned effect improves capture chance.

2000 ore is not grinding.

Yeah then ammo cost definitely isn't an issue. Someone who finds ammo to be too expensive hasn't gotten as far as you, and/or isn't playing an attack build.

There are options you can tweak in the world settings to boost how many resources you get as well as pal catch rate.

The World Options exist to allow you to customize the game to your liking.

ore is stupid easy to get late game, coal and quartz on the other hand can be time comsuming

just want more damage at late game, dealing less than 100 damage to legendary pal is somehow inconvenient

Rockets, if you insist on large single numbers. But if you can get close, you can achieve that with a pump-action shotgun; like, I've done more than 200 damage from a single shotgun shell to Frostallion by unloading directly into the face while riding Ragnahawk and w/ vanguard gobfins; and this wasn't with some yolo glass-cannon ATK-only build.

And here I am playing 0.5 exp and feeling great. Didnt feel the need to boost it yet because the progression feels really better both early and late.
