As to how to throw, it depends on the distance and terrain. I try and hit them directly but sometimes you need to lead them if they are moving so their trajectories cross.
If you are too far away the ball will drop before hitting because of that curve. But the ball can bounce once or twice before despawning. So it can still hit. But if not, it's gone.
It's best to throw the ball directly after a pal has moved, they are likely to be idle for a short while then.
When their health is low and/or when they have a status effect the capture rate will increase.
You can also craft better balls or find and upgrade your capture power with Lifmunk effigys.
Otherwise, lower HP as much as you can and then try and catch them. I've also heard of people carrying around one of the elemental bows/crossbows and using those to easily inflict fire or poison to further up the chance.
Another tip is you don't need to hit a Pal directly, just shortly after the sphere is thrown. I've caught a few things by bouncing the sphere off the ground to extend the range of my throw a little bit.
Thanks, I'll do that.
haaa, things are always better with a cannon.
You gain a surprise back bonus chance, depending on the sphere, to catch them if thrown to the back of the unaware pals.
Practice throwing around with the cheap blue spheres which can be easily obtain for free from a Vixy residing in a ranch.
