Are Pokemon fans this touchy?
For the past couple of weeks, it's just been non-stop hate and accusations, and false reports of legal actions and it all seems for the sole reason of "defending" the Pokemon brand... I guess... I'm not quite sure what's running through people's minds but so far they've made PalWorld out to be a threat- when it is the exact opposite, it's competition.

You have to be honest, Pokemon hasn't been doing well in the past couple of years and it has been suggested that the games are becoming old and "tired".
What was good for Pokemon in the 90's and 2000's is not sustainable today in 2024, as well as a lot of people pointing out how inefficient the Pokemon game devs are in developing the games- referencing how they don't make a "texture source" and instead, make a folder for every town and copy and paste the same textures- so that there is 100 of the same texture file and thus wasting space.

The recent Pokemon games: Scarlet and Violet, were released in an unfinished and buggy state- which is unheard of in Pokemon games until now.
Pokemon Masters for the phone: I think the creator had to apologize for how underwhelming it was.
The remake of Diamond and Pearl: Pretty much everyone hates the way the game looks and felt the game was lazy.

It seems as though that Pokemon has hit a common phenomenon whenever a brand has no competition: "Stagnation", and that's never good for anyone.
Asking for a higher price for a lower quality product- this kind of thing has happened before.

So Palworld comes along and it completely explodes into popularity, and giving Pokemon a run for their money, providing competition.
Whenever competition arises, a brand must do more in order to stay relevant and not get phased out.

You'd think Pokemon fans would welcome such a change after years of sustained mediocrity... but instead- at least for what I've seen, there is a lot of hostile behavior, constantly downplaying the game's success, coming out with false accusations of Ai use, false reports of legal actions for either Nintendo or the Pokemon Company- a long list of utter nonsense.

I don't get it, are Pokemon fans this touchy?

It's 2024. Everybody complains about everything. :steambored:
They are paid actors, not even Pokemon fans though.

I'm a hardcore Pokemon fan but I still enjoy Palworld.

give it a bit and they'll flood this post with how insecure they are. pokemon is probably the laziest aaa game out there, but they just want to be force fed garbage.

I enjoyed pokemon since the 90's always liked it. never been a die hard fan , really enjoyed the games like pokemon blue red and yellow , But well..... Someone just came up with a better idea , and its gamefreaks mistake for not having done this themselves , palworld took the cake :)

The weird part of this story is that Palworld is possibly the best commercial for Pokemon that Pokemon has seen the last decade. Palworld should be completely utterly celebrated by every Pokemon lover, including the owners of the Pokemon franchise.

The other weird part is that Palworld is hardly even Pokemon.
Why arent ARK fans complaining? Survival mechanics? Hunger? Actually, Project Zomboid had this before ARK...
Why arent Fortnite fans complaining? Building structures while pointing guns?? Thats a copy/paste!
Why arent Elden Ring fans complaining? The broken down churches and the dodge system. SUE THEM!!
Why arent Factorio fans complaining? I mean... automation of assembly lines?? HELLOOO?
Why arent Zelda fans complaining? The glider and the climbing is such a ripoff!
Why arent Runescape fans complaining? The player has an inventory... and crafts gear. OH NO!!

Wait... you need to keep ammo and weapons in your inventory, and you can only have equipped a select few weapons at a time, and as you progress, you get better weapons. Hmm, first game I played like that was Resident Evil in 1996 ...
Capcom should sue them!!

BFFR!

As a Pokemon fan, I enjoy Palworld and kinda wish Genius Sonority (not Game Freak since they have never been good at making games) would do their own Ark-style Pokemon game.

I got back into pokemon and played that dumb Hawaiian one. Lost interest.

They could just re-release Red & Blue over and over again and I would be content with that but with new Pokemon.

(I'm too tired to read the entire OP so I'll just say this-)
I was more or less a fan of Pokemon ever since I first played Emerald as a kid, but yeah I could definitely see the writing on the wall as I got older; I stopped playing after the disappointment that was Sun/Moon, and have been laughing at the absurdly lazy design of the games that came after ever since.
A part of me does wish they would learn a few lessons, even tho I stopped buying Nintendo consoles ages ago.

They're just salty because tpc et al are coasting and have been. The switch games have been garbage, PLA had garbage tier graphics, bugged diamond and shipped early pearl are unmitigated disasters, and SV and SWSH are middling at best before you factor in paying an additional retail price of the game for the two DLC. The last actually good games were SM and ORAS, then we got the easily falsified excuse of "well the switch is ten thousand times the system that the 3ds is but uh like for reasons we won't be putting in all the pokemon because uh models or something." But they know that crying to nintendo won't do anything because somehow SV pushed out 23m copies and that ♥♥♥♥ was so bad I refunded it and sold my switch. So instead they throw toddler-esque tantrum that somebody made a nice thing that they can't have on the ♥♥♥♥ they've chosen to ride.

Dragon Quest: 1986
Pokemon RBYG 1996

Pokemon "stole" from dragon quest in the same vein that palworld did.

And Dark Mutant that supposedly didn't release with early access? It's not fully implemented yet - it's not because it looks like mewtwo, ♥♥♥♥ it pulls more design elements from digimon's snatchmon than anything.

In the age of manufactured outrage no one can have anything nice, there can only ever be one examples of any type of game. All the new roguelites? Well they obviously copied off of vampire survivors. Palworld? Well pocketpair literally used AI to clone 3d pokemon models - does it matter that that's impossible? Nope. "Pocketpair simply had to have nefarious intentions, they cheated somehow" - Naughty Dog's senior artist https://twitter.com/PeterOvo5/status/1749442688422715854

Fun fact is PocketPair has its own artists who designed their Pals, so people who said they used AI are all wrong.

They dont defend pokemon , here on forum steam they only want to farm point and see people angrily typing in theirs bait thread and they wont even participate in a serious discussion , it like shouting at a wall .

To them , getting clown reward is the best thing ever happen to them , it free point after all and they canget nicer stuffs on steam point shop and they dedicate all theirs craft to bait people into giving them free point.

If anyone is astro turfing this game my money would be on another survival game, one known for having pretty sketchy and skeezy devs. I can think of one, but I’ll leave that thought alone for now other than to say, for such a hypothetical, acting as pokeman fanboys would make for a good cover.

Nintendo prob couldn’t care less, too much money to count from weird dudes who are little too into cartoon princesses and most Nintendo fans prob barely know about palworld other than the mod’s removal, most likely dismiss it without second thought as just another Temtem.

I also find it weird how these Pokemon "fans" can be this spiteful and childish. Not to mention how loudmouthed they're. I love pokemon, not a real die hard fan but can count as a normal sane fan out of the bunch. I played Gen 3, 4 and 5. Those are my favorite generation.

I can assure you most of the real Pokemon fans absolutely love Palworld, if not they would at least appreciate Palworld for doing what Nintendo and Gamefreak can't, and wouldn't do. Which is to take risks and give what the fanbase the game they always wished for.

Look at Pokemon: Arceus, to me one of the almost, very close to one of the perfect Pokemon games to ever be created. It has so so much potential just to be flopped, wasted away by their Cooperate Greed and trying to "Play it safe" decision. They could've made a "Zelda BOTW and TOTK but it's Pokemon" if they wanted to. Heck, even Pokemon: Arceus lack voice acting compared to the newer Zelda games.

In conclusion, those who blindly defend and worship Nintendo and Pokemon are so blind to realized they're just ants, beneath "Pals Slavery" kind of slaves to these Mega Corporate. Blinded by arrogance, ignorance and nostalgia to be cash milked and bamboozled by low effort games with the "Pokemon" trademark.

Let these manchild be like that. Let them cry a river. Let them waste their money and be in debt for their die hard stupidity. We who can judge with an open mind just go and enjoy Palworld as much as we can and move on.
Hex: Dementia Feb 13, 2024 @ 7:27am
it is hilarious actually. Temtem was much more a copy of Pokemon than Palworld ever was, but I didn't hear Pokemon fans screeching about that one.
Oh I guess because Palworld is actually successfull.

It would make no sense for Nintendo to sue here, they would just make fools of themselves, since Palworld is in the making for years now and also since the gameplay is very different from Pokemon.
If they want to argue about the Pal Designs being copies of Pokemon, that would be hilarious too because Nintendo blatantly copied Dragonquest and other games in 1996 xD

Also, I am pretty sure Nintendo has no monopoly on such games.
But how many Pokemon are there now? Over 1000 or something?
So even if you make a monster game and even if you actually "invent" Monsters by your own, there is no way that they will not have similarities to Pokemons, it is simply impossible.
