How to lose 1.5 million players: Wow, another record broken.
Bug, cheater, server wipe, lagg...

This game is the biggest failure of the year.

2 million players in January, less than 500k in February.

are they missing?

or

does it really shock you that 19 million people are not playing 24/7?

more importantly

what are you going to do with those (few) sweet sweet points?

Following the expected trend of any game released... what a shocker... It's almost as if almost every game loses most of it's initial average players in the first month. Oh that's right they do. Most lose on average 70-80% the first 2 weeks.

Lets look at it from a different perspective... 1 month in, it's lost 75% already and still has more average players than most AAA games ever see as their peak. How about that for a record..
I mean, I don't think the game is dying but it is worth noting that after selling over 12 million copies on Steam, the game has actually experienced a dropoff of ~95% on the platform (more like 96% but I rounded down), which is well above average. That said, this title isn't typical and can't really be compared to larger titles from larger studios. We have no idea how this is going down.

And, just to put things into perspective, in terms of active players this game is not breaking records anywhere but on steam and Xbox. MMOs will always be the kings of active players. Even WoW's disgraced remains still drag in 1,287,129 daily players, and well over 130 million subscribers.

I say stop making this game a war on AAA titles or whatever you kooky kids are angry about these days, just let it be a fun game. And ignore people like OP who don't want others to have fun.

a drop off of 95%?
explain this to me. how can a game with max 2 million player and current 500k or a max 700k peak 24h have a drop off of 95%?

pls stop comparing sold games to player online at the same time - this is stupid and makes no sense.

you never have 100% of all player online at the same time, thats impossible.
4-5% current player compared to games sold is already a big number.

a drop of 90% is reasonable for every singleplayer game within the first month. look at cyberpunk 2077, look at hogwarts, all these games lost 90% in the first month. thats totally normal.

"Hah! The most played game on Steam has lost players and is now... uh... sometimes the 2nd most played game on Steam! I knew this would happen!"
Imagine trying to gloat when everyone has already finished the game and is just waiting on content updates now, lmfao.:lunar2019laughingpig:

Game breaking bugs and save files being deleted for no reason. There’s only so much people will be willing to take.

Can we drop this private profile stigma? It’s very toxic. Many people keep their profile only open to friends, and that’s their choice. And they shouldn’t be shamed for it.
when have you seen a game that retain it launch player base month after? not even fortnite does nor pubg
fuazo Feb 13, 2024 @ 9:00am
besides it still the top 3rd game on steam for a mostly single player game

500k on steam alone, not even the top full-released games can pull that off, its already been a few months and its a early access dumb@ass ppl have finished what content there is. Not everyone is a low-life like you and spends all day of every day gaming 24/7.

All games drop off and yet here you are crying and complaining about it, how sad of a life do you live? We can all see why you have no friends or real life relationships.. you have nothing going in your pathetic life so u gonna cry about a game. Straight comedy fr ;)

Devs clearly wasnt ready for such big success. But problem is - they are still not ready and not going to be, unless miracle happens and they hire adequate managers.
That roadmap of their is litarelly screaming "we dont know what to do!" PVP - like SERIOUSLY?! There is no balance in skills, tons of bugs and performance is bad. What pvp are you talking about?
There is no factions, no quests, no minimal plot. Who are those clowns in towers and why should I fight them? Character editor most of time create some freaks.
They cant manage even most simple of all tasks - write some decent story. And given their previous projects...well I want to believe/ But if recent years have taught me something - that is "No money until job is done"

For reference of 'failure', Runescape, one of the precious most popular mmorpgs with a player counter in the day. Peaked at 100-250k players online with 10-20 years of content/ 1000 hr grind / early internet Game content scarcity.

70% of the count was inflated by 24/7 gold farming bots so like 10-70k human players after bot nukes.

And now it typically hovers around 30-65k players and yet its a well known oldie.

Pal world was expected to go bankrupt on release FINAL fantasy 1 style. I admit even as a skeptic I would have considered 10-20k players a big success and that is relatively big for a non AAA studio.

This game had 200x 10k.

And as mentioned people are splitting it over 7 days of the week and workweek. The 1-50 grind might be around 20-70 hrs and when people finish its alright.

We're paying to have a game make us happy about our time, not milk us with involuntary time unfriendly work to turn WoW into World of Chorecraft.

WOW's active players world-wide (Official Servers no Private Servers Included) right now: 211,978
Palworld active players right now: 411,557

You were saying?

Using your f'd up math above... WoW has retained 0.1% of this active accounts this month. Making Palworld about 50 times more successful.
Keep in mind 1,287,129 is how many people login in a day not at the same time.
